The medical identification bracelet was invented in 1956 by Dr. Marion Collins after his 14-year-old daughter suffered a near-fatal allergic reaction. The Collins family realized that people with severe, hidden allergies or chronic conditions needed a reliable way to communicate critical health information in an emergency. The first iteration was just paper notes attached to jewelry, but laid the groundwork for the first medical ID bracelet and the launch of their nonprofit called MedicAlert Foundation.

Today, thousands of children wear medical ID bracelets and Act4Kids Nevada is spreading awareness of their importance. Teaming up with the City of Henderson Fire Department, we will be attending three of their community events this Fall, to provide information and resources to interested families. Join us for an afternoon at the fire station! No need to register, we hope to see you there!

🏥 What an incredible day in Reno! ❤️

Our Family Engagement Workshop brought together amazing families, advocates, and professionals from across Nevada for a day centered around one important goal: learning how to better engage, support, and advocate for our children and their needs.

We are incredibly grateful for each of our presenters who shared their knowledge, expertise, and passion. Thank you for pouring into families and helping us all better understand how we can navigate systems, find resources, and become stronger advocates for our children.

We are reminded that none of us are in this alone. Families, professionals, providers, educators, advocates; we all have a role to play.
WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER 🫶🏻
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this day so meaningful.

Act4Kids Nevada was honored to be invited to
UNLV to discuss some of the challenges
Nevada families face navigating a fragmented pediatric healthcare system.
The event marked the release of new research from The Lincy Institute examining the current state of Southern Nevada’s pediatric care ecosystem. Several challenges and opportunities facing the region were highlighted in the report as well as recommendations for building a framework, improving systems and strengthening pediatric care throughout Nevada.
Thank you to UNLV and The Lincy Institute for including the family voice in these important conversations. Advancing pediatric healthcare across the state is a community effort and we are grateful to all those engaging in this important work.

Congratulations to Taosies, who was recently received the Student Volunteer of the Year award from the Children’s Advocacy Alliance! Taosies is pictured with Act4Kids Nevada board member, Kate 💙

He was nominated by the Nevada Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics for his advocacy during the 2025 legislative session. In his acceptance speech, he shared his passion for volunteering with Act4Kids and helping more young people learn that they can use their voices to advocate for positive change.

We love seeing young leaders step up, speak out, and inspire others to do the same. Congratulations—we’re so proud of you! 👏💙

Brandon shares the incredible benefit of freestanding children’s hospitals- how valuable they are to a community, and how they bring more access to families who are able to go to them!

Act4Kids Nevada’s mission is to advocate for more comprehensive healthcare for kids in our state. We started in 2023 by advocating for a freestanding children’s hospital, and are grateful Intermountain Children’s Health is answering the call with the Nevada Children’s Hospital planning to open in 2030. We know this is a piece in a larger statewide ecosystem and continue to advocate for organizations working together and continue to rise for the benefit of all children in our state!
