I wish I never had to write this, that none of us had to face this in our lives. But I do and we do. These suggestions will hopefully guide you in navigating how to take care of yourselves and your families in the midst of this pandemic.
The coronavirus pandemic is forcing us to reevaluate so much of our lives, to focus on those we love, and what is most important. As an act of self-preservation and as an act of service to all our friends, neighbors, co-workers, and fellow Americans it is imperative that we now, more than ever, focus on our personal health and well-being.
Here’s the bad news. Only 12% of Americans are metabolically healthy. 75% of us are overweight, 42% are obese, and one in two Americans have pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes.
Those with underlying chronic diseases (diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc.)—affecting 6 in 10 Americans—are at the greatest risk with mortality rates of five to ten times that of healthy COVID-19 patients. Obesity increases the risk of death almost 3 fold. We are seeing up to 40% of the hospitalizations in 20 to 54-year olds, and most of those are obese and overweight.
Along with what I’ve listed in the graphic, here are a few other things that will help us minimize suffering, loss, and death, by slowing and stopping the pandemic:
- Each of us optimizing our own health, especially metabolic health.
- Social distancing. This is a sad and massively disruptive reality that will likely continue in some form for 12-18 months.
- The development of a vaccine that optimistically will be in 18 months.
- The development of treatments, both conventional and unconventional.

So how are you? It’s been awhile! These past several weeks have been contemplative times for many of us, and frankly I haven’t felt much like posting. More to the point- I’ve felt overwhelmed and unsure of how to best share meaningful, authentic and interesting content. So I decided to pause and reset while I processed.
Sometimes we all need a bit of a pause, right? It’s easy to get so caught up in our day to day and not even realize the need for a real pause. How do you pause?
So I’ve finally come to the realization that regardless of how we walk, skip, jump, or skate through life, we ALL need to value our health. So to that end, I’ll resume adding my hopefully helpful holistic health tips and ideas.

Green Tea= one of my tips for a soft pause in the day. Twice a day, I reset with a cup (or 3) of my green 💚.
Green tea - rich in catechins, which are antioxidants that fight and may prevent cell damage.
Green tea is not overly processed, so it's rich in catechins.
Researchers found that of more than 100,000 Chinese adults they tracked, those who drank green tea at least three times a week were less likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke over the next seven years.
Tea lovers also had a slightly longer life expectancy. At age 50, they could expect to live just over a year longer than their counterparts who were not regular consumers of green tea.
Studies have linked the it to healthier cholesterol levels & body weight, and lower risks of heart disease & certain cancers.
For me, it’s both a calming and energizing break in my day where I can sit for a few and regroup, breathe, and think.

Zucchini Artichoke Fritters
Sooo simple you guys.
4 small zucchini.
½ C chopped artichoke
½ C chopped parsley
½ C brown rice flour
½ t baking powder
1 egg or egg replacement
Salt. Pepper. Tamari. Cayenne.
Grate zucchini and squeeze out all excess water. There will be a lot. Mix everything together. Drop 1/4 cup dollops and pan fry in tiny bit of oil ‘till both sides are browned and cooked through.
