📣 You can help align global terminology to support safer care and stronger research!

Support the Global Vascular Access Device (VAD) Nomenclature Project and complete the below short survey today!

➡️ SURVEY LINK/INFO: https://us.list-manage.com/ZMuYBAI5LSS

-Why the VAD Global Project matters-

Inconsistent vascular access device (VAD) terminology affects patient safety, limits research comparability, hinders policy implementation, and creates barriers to interoperability across digital health systems and emerging technologies.

-Why Complete the Survey?-

By participating, you will contribute to a global initiative to improve how VADs are defined, classified, and monitored. Your input will help inform international standards, strengthen future research, and support better patient outcomes.

Note: This project is funded and guided by the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) and led by The University of Queensland. INS has no influence on the project outcomes.

✨ Podcast Alert! 'Beyond the Bleed: Hemostasis and Antimicrobial Activity in Vascular Access'

Persistent bleeding at vascular access sites can complicate patient care, disrupt dressing integrity, and create challenges for clinicians and families. In this episode of AVA’s ISAVE That Podcast, host Judy Thompson welcomes interventional cardiologist Dr. Brian Corbett, critical care nurse Jamie Hepps, and Gina Milner of Omnistat Medical to discuss chitosan-based hemostatic agents. Drawing on experiences in the catheterization lab and cardiovascular ICU, the guests explore managing access-site bleeding in critically ill and anticoagulated patients, reducing frequent dressing changes, and supporting patient comfort.

The conversation also examines laboratory research presented at AVA’s 2026 scientific meeting on Omnistat’s antimicrobial activity, including findings involving MRSA, Pseudomonas, and biofilm formation. Listeners will hear practical insights on application, removal, and the importance of manual compression, along with clarification that these products are intended for temporary topical external use. Sponsored by Eloquest in partnership with Omnistat Medical Incorporated, this episode connects bedside experience with emerging research while distinguishing laboratory findings from demonstrated reductions in clinical infections.

📣 Are you involved in PICC placement in adult, pediatric, or neonatal patients?

As part of our commitment to advancing evidence-based vascular access practice, AVA is pleased to share an international survey exploring current practices related to peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement. By sharing your expertise and experience, you will contribute to a better understanding of international practice variation and help inform future research, education, and clinical guidance.

This survey is being conducted by Wouter Pieteraerens, PhD candidate at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), as part of his doctoral research program. The project is supported by AVA, INS, NANN, GLOVANET, and NEVAT, reflecting a collaborative effort to better understand PICC insertion practices worldwide.

We invite healthcare professionals who personally perform PICC insertions to participate in this survey. Completion takes approximately 15 minutes, and all responses will be collected anonymously and treated confidentially.
