Friday Night Lights: Why EMS Standby Matters

It’s Football Friday! The lights are on, the stands are filling up, and our TECHS EMS crews are set up and ready alongside our communities.

While players prepare for kickoff and fans cheer from the sidelines, our crews have a different game plan: be ready when someone needs help.

Looking Out for Everyone at the Game

EMS standby goes beyond watching for injuries on the field. A football game brings together athletes, coaches, officials, students, families, and fans of all ages.

Someone in the stands may become ill. A spectator could fall while navigating the bleachers. A player may need medical attention. Having EMS personnel at the event means trained professionals are nearby and prepared to respond.

Preparation Before the First Whistle

Event coverage begins before kickoff. Crews prepare their equipment, become familiar with the venue, and identify ways to reach someone who needs assistance.

Crowded stands, fences, gates, and busy parking lots can make access challenging. Knowing the layout and coordinating with event personnel helps crews prepare for those challenges before an emergency happens.

That preparation supports a more organized response when help is needed.

A Community Connection Beyond the Emergency

Football Fridays also give our crews a chance to connect with the people they serve. A wave from the sidelines, a friendly conversation, or a child getting a closer look at an ambulance can help build familiarity and trust.

Our crews are part of these communities, and we’re proud to show up for the moments that bring everyone together.

Help Us Keep Game Nights Safe

As you enjoy the game, keep ambulance access routes clear and be aware of where event staff and EMS crews are located. If someone needs help, alert nearby personnel promptly. For an emergency, call 911 and share your location within the venue as clearly as possible.

To our crews spending their Friday evening at the games: thank you for your preparation, attention, and commitment to our communities.

Enjoy the game, cheer loud, and know our crews are ready on the sidelines.

❤️🚑 What Does Mission: Lifeline Recognition Mean?

We’re excited to share some outstanding news for our EMS teams!

TECHS EMS dba, Osage County EMS, Jackson County EMS, and Nemaha County EMS have received recognition through the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s 2026 Mission: Lifeline® EMS Recognition Program.

The 2026 recognitions include:
🏆Osage County EMS earned GOLD recognition with Target: Heart Attack Honor Roll
🥈Jackson County EMS earned SILVER recognition
🥈Nemaha County EMS earned SILVER recognition.
This marks an exciting milestone for Nemaha County EMS, as 2026 is the first year the agency has received Mission: Lifeline recognition.

Mission: Lifeline recognizes prehospital provider organizations that demonstrate continued success in using the program and applying up-to-date, evidence-based treatment guidelines to improve patient care and outcomes within the communities they serve.

Why This Recognition Matters

For patients experiencing a cardiac emergency, EMS is a critical first link in the system of care. The assessment, treatment, communication, and coordination that take place before a patient arrives at the hospital can help ensure the receiving care team is prepared to continue treatment without unnecessary delay.

Mission: Lifeline recognition highlights the work EMS professionals do every day to bring evidence-based cardiac care directly to patients in the field.

These awards aren't simply certificates to hang on the wall. These achievements reflect the collective efforts of EMS clinicians, medical leadership, dispatchers, hospital partners, and others involved in creating a coordinated system of care for patients experiencing time-sensitive cardiac emergencies.

TECHS EMS congratulates the Osage County, Jackson County, and Nemaha County EMS teams on their 2026 Mission: Lifeline achievements and thanks our crews for their continued commitment to clinical excellence and the communities they serve.

Great cardiac care doesn't start at the hospital. It starts with EMS. 🚑❤️

🚑 Ever wonder why an ambulance might load a patient, close the doors… and then just sit there?

Chances are, we’re not just sitting there.

Once a patient is inside the ambulance, the crew has an entire mobile emergency room at their fingertips—cardiac monitors, medications, IV supplies, airway equipment, and much more.

Sometimes, before we ever put the ambulance in drive, we need a few minutes to:

🩺 Assess the patient
❤️ Check vital signs or run an EKG
💉 Start an IV or give medications
🫁 Manage breathing or other immediate concerns
🏥 Determine the best hospital for that patient

That last one is important.

Not every hospital provides the same level of care for every emergency. A stroke, major trauma, or cardiac emergency may require a specific destination—and what we find during our assessment can completely change where we go.

Could we do some of this while driving?Absolutely.

But some things are a whole lot easier—and safer—when we aren't bouncing down the road. 😂

So, the next time you see an ambulance sitting in front of a house after the patient has been loaded, remember:

We’re not wasting time. We’re using it. 🚑💙

The crew may already be assessing, treating, and making critical decisions before the wheels ever start moving.

💭 What’s something you’ve always wondered about what happens inside an ambulance?
