Part 2 of my series on the peptide gold rush..
Today I want to zoom out beyond peptides, supplements, and modalities, because they're all part of a bigger question.
A CDC study found chronic conditions in young adults, ages 18 to 34, rose from about 53% to nearly 60% in just ten years. A marker of autoimmunity has climbed too, nearly tripling in teenagers.
We have more supplements, hacks, and practitioners than ever. So why are so many of us getting sicker?
Early in my career, I worked in microbiology and virology at SmithKline Clinical Labs, now part of Quest Diagnostics, specializing in infectious disease. I watched antibiotic-resistant organisms emerge in real time. Biology adapts fast to whatever we throw at it, and we're throwing a lot: chemicals in our soil, water, and food, overused antibiotics, disrupted sleep, chronic stress.
You'll hear "our DNA is changing." Dose not happen in a few generations. What's shifting is how our genes are expressed, and our microbiome along with it. That's actually hopeful, because both can respond to changes we make.
"Go back to what our ancestors did" sounds wise, but our ancestors never faced our exposures and "we've evolved past all that" isn't true either. We're somewhere in between.
So let's think critically:
✔️ Was the study done in humans or animals?
✔️ How many people? Five or ten isn't proof.
✔️ Who funded it? Has anyone repeated it?
✔️ Are we only reading the studies that agree with us?
When we feel better on something new, that's real but the mind is powerful. Our own story can't replace evidence.
The people who are truly sick, with long COVID, vaccine injuries, rare autoimmune conditions, cancers, deserve better than hype. They deserve rigor.
