Rehab exercises and strength training are not the same thing.

Rehab targets something specific: a weak link, a stiff joint, a movement you can’t control yet. Strength training builds how much force and workload your body can handle overall. Two different jobs.

Where athletes get stuck is the handoff. The pain is gone, the band exercises are done, and often no one explains what comes next. So they stay in light drills too long, or jump back into full training with nothing in between.

Stay in rehab mode too long and you leave capacity on the table. Jump into full training too early and the original problem can come right back.

Most athletes need both, in a mix that shifts as they recover.

This has been a personal goal of mine for a while.

I’ve been working on my strength, pulling power, technique, and just getting comfortable with the movement—and today I finally got one.

It’s easy to think that once you reach a certain age, you’re supposed to stop chasing new physical goals.

You can’t accept that.

You can still get stronger. You can still learn new skills. You can still surprise yourself with what your body is capable of.

And honestly, that’s a big part of why I love what I do as a physical therapist.

Rehab isn’t just about getting out of pain. It’s about getting back to doing the things you want to do—and sometimes accomplishing things you’ve never been able to do before.

First muscle-up at 37. One down. Plenty more goals to chase. 🔥

I almost walked away from physical therapy. Not because of the patients — because of everything standing in the way of treating them.

Productivity quotas. Insurance rules that changed mid-treatment. Hours spent defending care to reviewers who’d never met my patients. A system that sometimes rewarded keeping people in PT longer instead of getting them better faster.

I wasn’t burned out from physical therapy. I was burned out from the way I was being forced to practice it.

So I changed how I practice. Everything about Infinite Athlete — one-on-one sessions, no insurance gatekeeping, full hours instead of rushed visits — comes from this story.

🎓 PATIENT SPOTLIGHT: REHAB COMPLETE! 🏀

Today we’re celebrating a huge milestone for this athlete! After starting with us post-op and putting in the work through every stage of her rehab, she has officially graduated from physical therapy and been cleared to return to basketball. 🙌

From rebuilding strength and movement to developing the confidence and physical readiness to get back on the court, she stayed committed to the process every step of the way.

Her consistency, coachability, and willingness to push through the challenging days played a huge role in getting her to this point.

We’re incredibly proud of the work she put in and excited to see what comes next! The rehab may be finished, but the next chapter is just beginning. 🔥

Houston runners — fall is coming. And for a lot of runners, that means the comeback begins. 🏃‍♂️

The heat finally starts to break.
Fall races start showing up on the calendar.
And suddenly, you’re trying to get back to the mileage you were running before summer.

But here’s the problem:

Your motivation comes back faster than your body does.

After months of reduced mileage in the Houston heat, your body may not be ready for the sudden jump in training.

That’s when we start seeing the familiar problems:

🦵 Shin splints
🦶 Achilles pain
🦵 Knee pain
🏃 Calf & hamstring issues
😩 The “I was fine until mile 3” feeling

It doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.

It means your comeback needs to catch up to your goals.

That’s why we’re launching The Fresh Start:

🔥 $99 Run Assessment
🔥 15% OFF every package

Your run assessment includes slow-motion gait analysis with a Certified Run Gait Analyst, giving us a closer look at how you’re moving before you start stacking the miles back up.

Ready to commit to your fall training? Save 15% on any package, including our running-specific packages designed to help carry you through race season.

Don’t wait until your knee, shin, or Achilles tells you to slow down.

Start now.
Build back smarter.
Make this fall the season you actually get to the starting line healthy.

⏰ The Fresh Start runs through Labor Day.

Getting out of pain is step one. What happens after that is the part nobody shows you.

This is what a real progression looks like — strength, then load, then stability, then power, then speed, then direction, then sport-specific skill, stacked together until it’s second nature.

It’s not random. It’s not just “time off.” It’s a process, built in order, on purpose.

Save this for the next time someone asks why rehab takes as long as it does.
