Look who is turning THREE years old?!

Happy Birthday to LifeSpeak!

Three years of working with incredible preteens, young adults, and families. Three years of teaching future Speech-Language Pathologists, traveling across Texas (and beyond!) for professional development, co-hosting a podcast, building new partnerships and now, co-authoring TWO textbook chapters!

But the very best part? The people. 💛

So here’s to the connections we’ve made, the things we never saw coming (IYKYK), and all the adventures we don’t even know about yet.

Thank you for being part of LifeSpeak!

And if you’ve been following along and thinking, “We should work together!”—maybe Year 4 is the year. 👀

Let’s connect! Whether you’re looking for communication coaching, professional development, collaboration, or just have a big idea you want to explore, I’d love to hear from you.

We are excited to share that Nathalie will be presenting three invited sessions at Baylor College of Medicine’s annual Health Care Transition Conference this October in the Houston medical center!

This one feels especially meaningful because she will be bringing the Speech-Language Pathology perspective into a room filled with physicians, nurses, healthcare administrators, students, and other professionals.

The message Nathalie brings is simple:

Communication is a life skill AND a health skill.

Being able to ask questions, explain what you need, advocate for yourself, use AAC or other communication supports, and participate in decisions about your own care matters.

It’s also a natural extension of what LifeSpeak has been building—reframing communication as something we need across the lifespan, not just something we work on in childhood.

Today, we’re celebrating the Speech-Language Pathologists who help people of all ages find their voice, advocate for themselves, and build meaningful lives through communication.

It’s Pearson Virtual Autism Summit Day, and I’m feeling incredibly grateful to be part of an invited lineup of leaders and changemakers across so many fields.

My on-demand session, Communication Is Not Just Speech: Integrating Assessment and Real-World Context, is rooted in a simple but important idea: our assessments should reflect the whole person and keep each student’s life beyond high school clearly in focus.

FAPE. LRE. Access to the curriculum. Meaningful parent participation. ARD/IEP meetings.

So much to explore, and we packed it all into three hours.

A big thank you to KrestaLee Shinkle for inviting LifeSpeak to facilitate a half-day, in-person workshop with the Comal ISD Speech Language Pathology team.

It was an engaging, thoughtful time spent digging into the work that impacts our students' outcomes. I especially enjoyed collaborating with Kresta to design content that was truly aligned with her team’s specific learning needs.

Looking ahead, I’m already booking workshop days for the 2026–2027 academic year.

At LifeSpeak, we believe communication is more than speech.

It’s participation. Access. Autonomy.

I’ve been invited to present at the Pearson Autism Virtual Summit 2026 on April 29: “Communication Is Not Just Speech: Integrating Assessment and Real-World Context.”

This online conference is designed for professionals, parents, self-advocates, and community members.

As we continue celebrating Autism Acceptance Month, it’s important to remember that communication extends far beyond spoken words.

Communication includes:
✨ Gestures and body language
✨ Written expression and typing
✨ Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)
✨ Visual supports and technology
✨ Silence, pauses, and processing time

Communication needs evolve across the lifespan from early childhood through adolescence, adulthood, and beyond.

Supporting communication means recognizing and valuing all forms of expression while providing the tools, strategies, and environments that foster meaningful participation in school, work, relationships, and community life.

Autism acceptance isn’t passive.
It's more than awareness.
It’s more than wearing a color or sharing a statistic.

Acceptance means we adjust environments.

We teach self-advocacy.

We expand how we define communication.

We support strengths while building skills that matter for real life.

This month, we will be sharing practical insights and encouragement for autistic teens, young adults, and the families who support them.

Let's build communication skills for life.
