Texas Medical Board mandates. Insurance legislation. State medical liability laws. All are under the watchful eye of TMA’s Committee on Patient-Physician Advocacy. Its charge to make high standards of care available to all is a tall order, but Chair Kathy Zhang-Rutledge, MD, says TMA is uniquely equipped with involved members. “A lot of the things that I thought were just way beyond an individual’s decision-making were actually done at the TMA level,” the Houston perinatologist said. “That’s an advantage that we have in Texas. We actually do have a chance to be at a seat at the table.”
