Our Mission

The National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) is a non-profit association of Black health care executives founded in 1968 for the purpose of promoting the advancement and development of Black health care leaders, and elevating the quality of health care services rendered to minority and underserved communities. BACK-TO-BACK! πŸ†πŸ†

She Thrives: A Maternal Health Experience is the 2026 NAHSE National Program of the Year, and for the second year in a row, that title calls Houston home.

Last year: men's health. This year: maternal health. Same commitment to our community. πŸ’™

Thank you to our She Thrives chairs Maquita Degraffenreid, Dr. Alexis Williams, Jonathan Leonard, and Ashia Johnson for carrying this from idea to impact.

Thank you to the Black Women's Health Imperative and Joy D. Calloway for a keynote we'll never forget.

And thank you to every volunteer, speaker, sponsor, partner, and woman who showed up. This one is yours.

πŸ† Award-winning β€” and back for more.

Last year, Mind Body Brotherhood: The Blueprint was named NAHSE Houston's Program of the Year.
This November, we're doing it again.

Why? Because the work isn't finished. Our brothers deserve a space to set the weight down, get the numbers checked, and be reminded that showing up for yourself is strength.

When our youth see themselves in a white coat, the future of healthcare changes. 🩺✨

NAHSE Houston was proud to sponsor Black Men in White Coats with Kelsey-Seybold, an amazing day of pouring into young people in medical spaces.

Shoutout to two of our own:
πŸ‘ Raven Bennett, our Executive Board Secretary, who planned this event through her work at Kelsey-Seybold
πŸ‘ Dr. Alexis Williams, NAHSE Houston Board Member, who served as a moderator

This is our mission in action. Developing healthcare leaders starts with exposure, mentorship, and showing the next generation there's a place for them in medicine and in leadership.

Representation builds the pipeline. The pipeline builds the leaders. πŸ’™

Thank you, Kelsey-Seybold, and everyone who showed up for our youth!

Beyond the Ballot was a night to remember. πŸ—³οΈπŸ’™

Thank you to everyone who joined us and for Beyond the Ballot: Advocating for Healthier Houston Communities.

We checked registrations, got people registered, and talked honestly about how policy shapes the health of our neighborhoods.

The takeaway? Your vote is where advocacy starts, not where it ends. ✨

To our panelists and moderator: thank you for keeping it real.
To our partners at HAULYP: thank you for linking arms with us.
To everyone who showed up: you are the reason this work matters.

Swipe for our favorite moments ➑️ and tag yourself if you were in the room! πŸ“Έ

300 seats. This Saturday. And a room full of Houston kids who are about to see what they could become.

NAHSE Houston is proud to sponsor the Black Men in White Coats 2026 Youth Summit β€” Opening Doors for Success β€” brought back to Houston for a third year by Kelsey-Seybold Clinic.

Saturday, October 3, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences, Atrium Tower
1919 Pressler, Houston, TX 77030
Free for Houston-area students

Who should be there: students from 3rd grade through medical school, residents, fellows, and attending physicians, guardians, and teachers, advisors, and school counselors. Students must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or teacher.

Our chapter puts real energy into developing leaders already working in healthcare. But the pipeline starts long before anyone declares a major. A twelve-year-old who spends a Saturday with physicians in October becomes a different applicant at twenty-two.

If you know a student with an interest in science or medicine, this is the week to tell them.

This Thursday.

Beyond the Ballot: Advocating for Healthier Houston Communities
Thursday, October 1 | 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Houston Area Urban League, 1301 Texas Ave, Houston, TX 77002
Co-hosted by NAHSE Houston and the Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals

The timing matters. Monday, October 5 is the last day to register to vote in Texas for the November 3 election β€” four days after we gather. If checking your registration has been on your list, this is the week it stops being on your list.

The panel:

Igor Vouffo, MPH β€” Senior Health Planner, Houston Health Department
Dr. Renita Madu, PhD, PA-C, LSSBB, FACHE β€” Assistant Director, Houston Health Department
Tanweer Kaleemullah, JD, LLM, MHA-MBA β€” Director of Policy & Research, Episcopal Health Foundation
Aresha Davwa β€” Senior Policy Advisor, Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis
Moderated by Dr. Alexis Williams, DNP, RN, CPHQ β€” Director of Nursing Excellence, HCA Houston Healthcare

Everyone in healthcare knows how much of a patient's outcome gets decided long before they reach us. Thursday is two hours with the people working on that upstream end.

All are welcome β€” community members, healthcare professionals, students, and advocates. Nonpartisan.

Inform. Engage. Advocate. Create change.

Block the evening. Bring a colleague.

This afternoon, our NAHSE Houston family traded boardrooms for brown bags. 🍎πŸ₯ͺ

We spent the day volunteering with Kids' Meals and packed 1,973 meals for Houston children who might otherwise go without. Health equity doesn't start in the hospital. It starts at home, at the table, and in making sure every child has what they need to grow and thrive.

Thank you to the Kids' Meals team for welcoming us, and to every member who showed up with their hands and their hearts. πŸ’™
