What a beautiful and busy day.

I had clients come from Katy, Kingwood, Memorial and the Heights, today.

I know that no matter how close or far you live from the office, it’s always a lot of effort to get here (a minimum of two hours is taken from your day).

I just want to say, I appreciate that effort and your trust in my work. 😌

A physical therapist I have followed for many years, wrote today: “Anyone who claims that they get to the
ROOT CAUSE that others miss, please unfriend me now. So tired is [𝑠𝑖𝑐] these posts.”

I don’t think it is a bad sentiment. I may not ask others to “unfriend me now”. But, I do find it disturbing that much of that style of language, feels like it is about grabbing any and all patients and clients, just in order to fill a spot in a room.

I believe this was originally a practice-management marketing term that has slowly been adopted into the practices of well-meaning practitioners over the years.

Part of the reason I keep a very small practice, is because I prefer to speak with someone on the phone before booking them.

Within a phone conversation, I can make a fairly certain determination as to if I am a good fit for someone or not.

I also maintain a knowledge base of tried and true practitioners who are each good at what they do, since I know I am never going to be the best option for *everyone* who calls.

Of course, I am quite good at my work.

But, I do find myself referring out at least one potential client/patient at least once every four weeks, before they’ve ever walked through my doors.

Many times, they have found me due to not knowing exactly what it is that they may need.

Once I can talk to them, I can let them know why I think I can help… or not.

And, while I will always do my best *to* help, I am also always open to suggesting someone better equipped for their case, if warranted.

It’s been a tough past-week.

And, while I don’t love Torchy’s little devil for a logo (to the point where I refused to eat there for quite some time)… and am generally turned-off by businesses cursing in their ads, I can still say I do support them because they are consistent with their food.

And, when I don’t want to wonder what I’ll get, I go to them first, when on the road and want breakfast fast.

So, why do I write this?

First: Husband and wife clients of mine bought me a gift card to Torchy’s a while back and I am really thankful. Let’s say that loud… Thank-you! It came at a distinct time where I needed to find a place to park myself, after dropping Manfred off at dialysis (for about a month), because of a weird gap I had in my schedule.

Second: I found that their employees are all really nice. *Really*. This also keeps me coming back!

Third: Last week I downloaded the Torchy app. I’m not “app-y”. Today, the app gave me the opportunity for a *free* queso. I have no idea why. But, I am heading to my mom’s house to take care of something for her, and we’re going to stop for a bit and simply try to enjoy a moment.

So, an additional thank-you goes out to Torchy’s today. 🙃

If you are looking to know more about them, here’s a clip:

This looks like something a number of you may enjoy! 😊

I’ve already reached out to anyone who had a scheduled appointment on W & Th.

My expectation is that I’ll be able to get back to work by Friday.

But, since we have a family emergency, it is a bit up in the air until I learn more tomorrow.

If you wonder why I sometimes refer to other therapists on FB business (group page) posts, instead of only mentioning myself:

The fact is, I know how hard it is to build a business. And, I feel that if I can’t help a client seeking a therapist, due to budget, time constraints, bodywork preference or some other reason… then at minimum, I might as well pass on the information of an LMT I know and trust, who might fit their needs… and help that LMT grow their practice along the way.

While I am in business to make a living, 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 “𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠”, and that branches out into wanting to help those I can, how I can.

Of course, I want to be the therapist ‘picked’. “𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐦𝐞!” 😃

But, I know I am not the best fit for everyone. And, when I find I am not… I want the potential client to get into good hands.

If I don’t recommend an excellent therapist, then the client may end up wasting their money, because they don’t know who/what to look for.

It may not seem like a useful business philosophy. But, at least I sleep well at night, knowing I’m doing my best. 🙂
