A few vulnerable and honest thoughts after one year of posting on this page. Thanks for hanging around - I’m grateful for all 30K+ of you 🫶
Unlike my 8-5 job, there is no physical separation with content creation. It’s hard to set boundaries with it, and sometimes it does consume my mind more than I’d like to admit. I think I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t keep me from living life more presently at times. Does anybody else think content creation is harder than their actual jobs?
Some days my reel views suck and engagement sucks, but I’ve just learned to accept that my self worth =/= my social media stats. My opinion is that if you are posting for the algorithm, then you may lose your identity and what you actually care about. Maybe if I was doing this full-time and my livelihood depended on it, I’d care more. But I make content because I love medical education, being creative, sharing my journey personally and professionally. Holding on to your why is important.
It took me 2 years to finally post something on this page, but I’m incredibly grateful for the skills I’ve learned over the past year - from editing on CapCut and Canva to public speaking and learning how to communicate complex ideas in a way that people can actually understand. If you’ve been thinking about content creation, it’s never too late to start!
No matter what you say, how you say it, or what you choose to share, someone will have something negative to say. I’ve had my fair share of haters this year, but you’ll either have to grow some thick skin or just be like IDGAF (unless it’s truly constructive criticism of course).
Of course, getting paid for something you put time and effort into is nice. But to be honest, I haven’t really monetized this account! But I have built something that feels true to me, met some like-minded people online, and received a community in return, which is so much more rewarding! 💛
