Dry needling and acupuncture may look similar, but they’re not the same thing. ✨

So what’s actually different? 🤔 From the techniques and training to the way each approach views the body, there’s more to the story than just where the needles go.

🧠 Plot twist: Your brain is still under construction.

Your brain is constantly learning, adapting, and getting better at whatever you repeatedly ask it to do.

That’s great when you’re learning to drive. 🚗
Not so great when your nervous system gets really good at sounding the pain alarm. 🚨

The good news? You can give your brain new experiences to learn from.

In this week’s podcast, Dr. Barbie talks neuroplasticity, chronic pain, the brain-body connection, and why you’re never too old to change.

And yes… apparently acupuncture earns your brain bonus points. 😉

🐾 **Olive Update** 🐾

Olive has a new…acquaintance. She did not approve of or choose this for herself, and is quite miffed no one asked her opinion of the matter.

🐶 Meet Snoop, my parents’ new puppy and, according to Snoop, Olive’s new best friend. According to Olive, the nature of their relationship remains under review.

❤️ Since Olive spends so much time at my parents’ house, we have been helping her adjust to having some very enthusiastic puppy energy in her previously peaceful domain. Snoop LOVES Olive. He gets excited every time he sees her, follows her around, watches everything she does, and seems convinced that this large, fluffy, slightly irritated creature is exactly who he wants as his very good best bud.

Olive does not share his enthusiasm.

🙌 But we are making progress. She has moved from general annoyance toward something resembling tolerance, and every once in a while, she even tries to play with him. 🥹 Unfortunately, Olive is a very large dog who apparently has no concept of how terrifying her attempts at play look to a puppy. She initiates, Snoop gets thoroughly startled, and the budding friendship briefly requires a reset.

None of this has discouraged Snoop.

🐾 He continues following Olive around, studying her, attempting to win her affection, and learning how to be a dog from his reluctant new mentor. Olive continues pretending she wants nothing to do with him while occasionally betraying herself by engaging.

I think we are witnessing the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

😂 Olive would like it noted that she strongly disagrees.

Sleep 8 hours. Wake up exhausted. Drink coffee. Still exhausted. Repeat. ☕😴

If that sounds familiar, you’re not imagining it and you’re definitely not alone.

There’s a difference between being tired and being depleted. And sometimes “your labs are normal” doesn’t quite explain why you feel like you’re running on fumes.

In this week’s podcast, Dr. Barbie talks about the overlooked pieces of exhaustion, from iron and thyroid function to stress, sleep quality, nutrition, and Chinese medicine patterns.

Because “normal” doesn’t always mean you feel good. 👀

🚨 What if your pain is actually your body’s smoke detector?

You wouldn’t smash the smoke detector because you didn’t like the noise… you’d look for the smoke. 🔥

So why do we treat pain like something that simply needs to be silenced?

In this week’s podcast, Dr. Barbie talks about what pain is trying to tell you, why chronic pain can keep ringing the alarm long after the original problem is gone, and how acupuncture looks at the bigger picture. 🧠

🎧 Give it a listen, and maybe rethink the way you think about pain.

What if pain isn’t actually the problem? 🤔

Pain is your body’s way of communicating that something needs attention, but the place that hurts isn't always where the real problem begins. 🧠⚡

In our newest blog, we explore why pain can be so much more complicated than simply finding the source of the ache, and what your nervous system has to do with it. 🌿
