I have landed. Ever so safely and wonderfully in my new homeland.
I have wanted to send out an update for quite a bit of time. I want to maintain connection with you all and it just seemed like I haven’t been able to create a place to write.
Plenty of happenings; the settling in, the instant harvest of the orchard, the visitors, the setting up, the planning of what’s next, the realities of setting things up alone, teaching with the college again, slowly opening my books to clients, all happening at once.
I love it here. There is a lot of work, both on the farm and client work. I have already been a part of two death doula works. And every day feels full. Beautiful. Demanding. There is a great peace in this area, a peace that everyone who has been through the area, already has commented on. The refreshing, yet volatile energy of the ocean, the absolute stillness of the redwoods. What I have observed in others, is everyone leaving a little more at peace, a little less weighed down, and hopefully an understanding that this can be a way of life.
Where I am at, people care to know you, know your story. I am in a place where families run generations deep, people marry their high school sweethearts. The belief systems are vast and stubborn, yet respectful to others. Sure, it is not at all perfect but it is a different experience.
It is quiet here. The occasional call out from cattle, or an extra loud trailer bumping down the road. My nervous system and those of my guests, have begun to regulate and clear at a phenomenal depth. Almost every night welcomes a deep, restorative sleep. Sometimes from the massive amount of physical activity during harvest and other farm work and sometimes, just because it is safe to do so. Beyond the nervous system, my Spirit feels calm. Safe. And oh so alive. Every day brings some kind of discovery or joy, allowing myself to just be me.
I am told quite often how brave I am, to just pick everything up and move, without knowing anyone, on my own. And perhaps that is true. I don’t feel brave. I felt an inner knowing that my time in Colorado was past it’s expiration date and I listened. I feel more like an example. Much like when I started this work, it was because through my own healing, I saw how much better life could be, and I wanted to give that opportunity to others. Thus my practice was born. Here, I wanted to live in, and then show, a life without loud, without a lot of drama, making things happen, ideas coming true, creating a space for others to partake in, should it align with them.
And I am learning. Every day. Sometimes it is practical things, like rural living and sometimes it is a challenge of articulating exactly what I want, now that I am here. How exactly am I going to continue to show up for community, both in Colorado and now here in California? My work is well received here. There is actually a lot of excitement. Now how to execute in a new way, is my current discovery.
I will be continuing Zoom sessions and I have the desire to create a small retreat space and a place where you all can book a 3 day intensive, where we can do deep work, ceremony in the redwoods or at the ocean. And perhaps you would just desire a respite from life, that too is reason to come out. You will be fed and well rested.
I have an orchard that is abundant and needs mending. A few more trees to add. I started building a berry patch (Lesson #17 Everything takes about 4 times longer than you think). My greenhouse is in rough shape but the bones are there, a project to mend soil and begin to grow the herbs we so often consume in our healing remedies.
This land once belonged to the Wiyot tribe and of course as it was settled, we understand the brutality that took place. Land healing and clearing has become a part of almost every day.
I have plans drawn out for our first community project, community, including all of you, if you are called to support. A rose memorial garden next to an outdoor medicinal herb garden. Full details will be released so that those called to help can either show up, get the word out, or donate in a variety of ways. I want to be extremely transparent on where the support will be going/used for. And the truth of patience and asking for help is something I continue to work on.
All of this takes time, cultivation, and adjustments. I’m here, I’m ready, I’m connecting back to you all with an open door and an open heart.
Whether it is over the phone, online, or in person, I look forward to our connection
