in our group, we are relational therapists! relational therapy is basically about paying attention to what happens between us - not just what happens in your life outside of therapy.
we notice when you feel misunderstood by us, when something we say lands differently than we intended, when you feel really connected to us, when you’re frustrated with us, or when you notice yourself wanting to pull away. those moments can give us a lot of information about how you experience relationships, connection, conflict, trust, boundaries, and repair.
but!!! a large part of our work is to be warm, genuine, funny, and human. we will laugh with you, show our personalities, or occasionally self-disclose. but when we do, there should always be a therapeutic reason for it - it should add something meaningful to your work, not meet our own emotional needs or turn therapy into a two-way sharing experience. aka - the relationship can be real without being reciprocal in the same way a friendship is. 🤍
it means creating a safe enough relationship to explore how you relate to other people - by paying attention to how you relate to us. and in this work, a true relationship forms out of the therapeutic space: we deeply care about you, too.
