Joy has always been the same thing for me: my people.

My friend Kara Kavensky asked me this — she's about to release Tell Me About Joy — and I haven't stopped thinking about my answer.

The sandbox as a kid. Late-night swims at my best friend's pool. Laughing so hard with friends that nothing else existed.

Watching my kids figure something out. A hug that reset everything.

Now it's slow mornings. Lunch with a friend. Dinners where we talk about our gardens and our kids and all of it — the growing up, the loss, the starting over.

My people bring me joy in the hardest times AND the best times. You can't just show up for one or the other.

What's YOUR story of joy? Drop it in the comments — Kara wants to hear it too.

Joy doesn't always arrive the way we expect it to. Sometimes it's matching socks on chemo day. A bouquet left on a porch. Hours of video games played side by side while a friend healed.

These small, fierce acts of love are exactly why WhatFriendsDo exists — and they never stop moving me.

I want to hear yours. Tell me about a moment a friend showed up in a way you didn't expect. A gesture that made a hard season feel a little lighter. Send your story to [email protected] — the best ones will be featured in our next two newsletters. 💛

And if you're looking for your next read, my dear friend Kara Kavensky is publishing something made for this community: Tell Me About Joy: A True Story of Love, Regret, and Second Chances.

Joy finds us in the most unexpected places. So glad we get to find it together.

Love Is a Verb
February is the month we talk about love—but real love isn't just about flowers and chocolates. Real love shows up and says "I'm here to help." It coordinates rides to appointments, organizes meals, and makes sure no one faces hard times alone.
At WhatFriendsDo, we've seen love in action thousands of times. We've watched communities rally around families facing medical crises, new babies, grief, and life's unexpected turns. And here's what we know for sure: love is practical.

When You Love Someone, You Show Up
But showing up can be complicated. You want to help, but you don't want to intrude. You want to offer support, but you're not sure what's needed. That's where care coordination comes in—turning good intentions into meaningful action.

This Valentine's Season: Give the Gift of Support
Whether someone you love is facing a challenge now or you want to be ready when they need it most, here are two ways to show you care:

🎁 Buy a Gift Certificate - Give the gift of coordinated care. Perfect for new parents, families facing medical situations, or anyone navigating a major life transition.
💝 Valentine's Special: 14% off gift certificates through February 14th - Use code LOVE2026
📋 Set Up a Care Page - It takes just minutes to create a free page where friends and family can see what's needed and sign up to help. No more guessing, no more overwhelming group chats—just organized, meaningful support.

Because Love Means Never Having to Face It Alone
When hard times come—and they come for all of us—having a community ready to help makes all the difference. WhatFriendsDo makes it easy for that community to coordinate, communicate, and show up in the ways that matter most.

This February, let's redefine love as action. Let's make sure nobody navigates life's challenges alone.

Connection isn't a luxury—it's essential. 💛

Especially during major life transitions, we need each other more than ever. But let's be honest:
-Asking for help feels hard.
-Knowing what help you need feels overwhelming.
-And offering support? Sometimes we just don't know where to start.

This is exactly why WhatFriendsDo Care Concierge exists.

Over the years, we've walked alongside 50,000+ families through every kind of life transition—cancer diagnoses, new babies, aging parents, grief, recovery, and everything in between.

Here's what we've learned:
People don't lack the desire to help or be helped. They lack the system to make it happen.

Our Care Concierge service coordinates the practical support that allows people to focus on what matters most during life's hardest moments.

Whether it's for you, a friend, your employees, clients, or patients—we're here to help.

Because asking for help isn't a sign of weakness. It's a sign of strength.

Let's talk about how WhatFriendsDo can support your community.

Two days left.

The world feels impossibly heavy right now. But people are still getting sick. Loved ones still need help. And human connection matters more than ever.

I've heard from so many of you this month who said, "I am so glad to. know about this" or "This is exactly what my friend needs right now."

If someone comes to mind—a coworker going through treatment, a neighbor caring for aging parents, a friend juggling too much—this is your reminder.

When your friend gets diagnosed with cancer, you want to help.
When your coworker's parent has a stroke, you want to do something meaningful.

When someone you love is overwhelmed by a health crisis or major life transition, casseroles and "let me know if you need anything" just don't cut it.

Here's what actually helps:
Taking the coordination off their plate. Giving them a care coordinator who handles meals, rides, updates, childcare—all the details that are drowning them right now.

That's what a WhatFriendsDo Concierge Care Coordination gift certificate does.
Be the friend who knows how to help when it matters.

Purchase now at 50% off (code WELCOME through Jan 31) and gift it anytime through 2026. Valid for one full year.
