The cost of providing EMS doesn’t stop when the ambulance is sitting at the station.

Ambulance providers must maintain 24/7 readiness — trained personnel, equipped and maintained ambulances, medications, medical supplies, communications systems and the infrastructure needed to respond when the next call comes.

That readiness has a cost whether a service responds to one call or dozens.

For many ambulance providers, particularly those serving rural communities where call volumes may be lower and distances longer, maintaining around-the-clock readiness is one of the realities of providing access to emergency medical care.

The Texas Ambulance Association works to educate policymakers and the public about what it takes to keep EMS available in communities across Texas.

Because when an emergency happens, readiness can’t start then. It has to already be there.
