Pharmacists: The Imposters of Healthcare

Accomplished people across all professions experience feelings of self-doubt from time to time. This feeling may be what is called "Imposter Syndrome" and as a pharmacist, perhaps you've felt this before. Jessica Adams, PharmD certainly has, and in this article she discusses the ways in which pharmacists can combat these self-doubts and affirm the worth of a pharmacist to yourself and others in the healthcare world.

Imposter syndrome is the persistent feeling of inadequacy despite evident success. As pharmacists, we tend to feel this among our peers. We shouldn't.

Telepharmacy Use Case: Sterile Compounding

The Pharmacy team at UNC Health recently conducted a published a study on the impact of the use of telepharmacy for sterile compounding. We talked to Stephanie Jean, the Clinical Manager who led the study, about how the experiment was carried out, and what the results mean for the future of telepharmacy in this space.

Sterile compounding has long been a potential use case for telepharmacy, but there hasn't been much data to support the practice until a recent UNC study.

The new chairman for National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) said in a recent interview with Chain Drug Review, "Advancements in technology and new ways of communicating exist that can further modernize the pharmacy in a way that would allow one pharmacist to potentially supervise multiple locations. Doing so would lower costs and enable community pharmacy to remain relevant as digitalization continues to revamp industries."

Utah's First Telepharmacy, Q&A with Pharmacist Donavan Smith

The very first telepharmacy in Utah is now live and operational thanks to the efforts of Donavan Smith and his team at Wayne Community Health Center in Bicknell, Utah. They operate a telepharmacy in the small rural town of Green River, a town located more than 60 miles from the nearest pharmacy prior to the telepharmacy's opening. In this article, we spea with Donavan about the process of implementing telepharmacy and the impact it has had on the patients of Green River.

Telepharmacy's Impact on Rural Health

The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) recognizes "National Rural Health Day," to bring awareness to the struggles rural areas face regarding healthcare. Rural areas in the U.S. struggle to get proper healthcare, so it's up to healthcare professionals to find ways to provide service to people in underserved rural areas. Providing Access in a True Pharmacy Desert: Q&A with Arizona's First Telepharmacy

The first telepharmacy in Arizona has been up and running for a while now thanks to the efforts of Roger Rose and his team at Wickenburg Community Hospital which opened a telepharmacy in one of their rural clinics located 16 miles away to provide convenient pharmacy access to patients in the town.

In our conversation with Roger, we discuss the process of getting the telepharmacy up and running, the reasoning for implementing it, and the effect it has had since opening.

Wickenburg Hospital opened the first telepharmacy in Arizona in their rural clinic in Congress, AZ, a desert community.
