Our team recently conducted a joint training session for ConnectLife, Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network, and the Center for Donation and Transplant.

From wet lab exercises to LifePort Kidney Transporter best practices, the joint session provided a valuable opportunity for these organizations to learn, connect, and strengthen collaboration across the transplant community.

I joined Organ Recovery Systems in 2004 after working as an acute dialysis nurse and organ procurement coordinator during the early years of my career. Over the past 22 years, I’ve had the opportunity to be part of expanding our LifePort hypothermic machine perfusion technology across the U.S. and around the world. In fact, during my first years here, I helped establish a Houston-based LifePort Kidney Transporter preservation service to help increase transplant center adoption. Today, as Managing Director of Global Distribution, I work with partners and transplant programs around the world to continue expanding access to our technology.

My passion for transplantation began while caring for dialysis patients. I saw firsthand how difficult dialysis could be and how much kidney disease affected every part of a patient’s life. Wanting to make a greater impact, I transitioned from dialysis nursing to organ procurement and eventually to ORS. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been helping advance machine perfusion from limited use to widespread adoption across transplant programs worldwide.

In my free time, I enjoy supporting my wife as she grows her business and spending time with my family. I have three children, as well as three dogs that keep life interesting and active. I also love traveling to new places and exploring different parts of the world. 💜

ORS CEO Tom Daulton recently spoke with Authority Magazine on Medium about innovation in transplantation, the responsibility that comes with developing technology for a high-stakes healthcare environment, and the importance of keeping patients at the center of innovation.

Drawing on more than 35 years in the medical device industry, Tom also shared five principles for creating technology that can make a positive social impact:

- Maintain a strong business model
- Build trust in the technology
- Create a workflow that can scale
