Jackson City Park Receives New Communication Board Thanks to Local Student’s Passion Project
Jackson, October 15, 2026 — Visitors to Jackson City Park will now find a new resource aimed at making play more inclusive for everyone. A custom-designed communication board has been generously donated by Jackson High School student Kelsie Grant as part of her English Language Arts passion project.
The communication board features symbols, visuals, and simple phrases that help non-verbal children and adults express their needs, feelings, and choices while enjoying the park. By pointing to images on the board, individuals with speech or language challenges can communicate more easily with family members, peers, and caregivers.
Kelsie developed the project after learning about the importance of accessible communication tools and the impact they can have on daily life. Her goal was to create something that would support inclusivity and connection in her community.
City officials and park staff expressed appreciation for Kelsie’s thoughtful contribution and highlighted how such resources strengthen community engagement.
“Kelsie’s donation reflects a remarkable level of compassion and initiative,” said City of Jackson Parks and Recreation Director, Jason Lipe.
The communication board has been installed near the playground at Safety City, where it is easily accessible to visitors of all ages and abilities.
