How are you feeling about the holidays? You ready? What about your house? Mine? Oh, so not ready and I'm hosting Thanksgiving. SMH.

So, I've been thinking...

What if we spent the next 30 days doing a little something every day to make our homes more manageable?

I'm talking about small, practical things that fit into real life. Because most of us don't have an entire weekend to devote to cleaning and organizing. And frankly, I'd rather spend my weekend doing something else. 😂

That's why we're starting the 30-Day Living Well Home Reset Challenge on Tuesday, October 27!

And here's the best part. It's free!

We're hosting the challenge INSIDE the Every Girl Living Fit app, where you'll also find our blogs, podcasts, upcoming events, and other resources for living well.

If you haven't downloaded the app yet, this is a great reason to start.

Join me at "Every Girl Living" on the Fit app to do the 30-Day Living Well Home Reset Challenge and stay updated on the go.

More details coming soon! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 27th!

Have you ever looked around your house and thought, "What if we just moved?" 😂 ...or maybe just burned the whole house down?

Oh, just me? Hahaha... (nervous, awkward laugh)... just kidding...

Here's the thing. I know a fair amount about human behavior. I understand motivation, habits, executive functioning, and all the psychological reasons we do the things we do.

And yet, somehow, that knowledge has never once unloaded my dishwasher. Ugh. I still have to do that myself.

This week, I'm sharing a little of what I know professionally, along with what I've learned personally, about keeping up with a house when life gets overwhelming.

And yes, there are actual strategies that help. I've even included a few that don't require moving or committing insurance fraud.

You are not lazy, undisciplined, or failing—you are experiencing neurobiological overwhelm! 🧠✨
In the latest episode of The EGL Deep Dive Podcast, we unpack the psychology, biology, and behavioral science behind household chaos, executive dysfunction, and domestic burnout.

Ever look around your house, see everything that needs to be done, and suddenly feel like doing absolutely none of it? 😂

You know the dishes need washing. The laundry is piling up. And those Amazon boxes? They've practically become part of the decor.

Here's something interesting about overwhelm: when we're faced with too many tasks, figuring out where to begin can become a task of its own. And when we're already tired or stressed, getting started can feel even harder.

So, here's what I want you to try.

Forget about cleaning the whole house. Grab a trash bag, set a timer for five minutes, and see what you can accomplish.

That's it. Five minutes.

Sometimes getting started is enough to build a little momentum. And even if you stop when the timer goes off, you've accomplished something.

That's the idea behind our upcoming 30-Day Living Well Home Reset Challenge, starting Tuesday, October 27!

We're taking a practical, manageable approach to caring for our homes, one small step at a time.

And because I know how easily life gets overwhelming, we're making the challenge available through the free Every Girl Living app.

In the meantime, I've written more about the psychology behind household overwhelm and how to get moving again.

Now I'm curious: What's that ONE household chore you keep putting off? Tell me in the comments. I promise you're in good company.

There's a science experiment happening in my refrigerator. And apparently, nobody signed up to supervise it. 😂

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only woman who has opened the refrigerator, discovered something that may have developed its own ecosystem, and quietly closed the door again.

Which got me thinking about housework. More specifically, why is it that sometimes the simplest things feel so overwhelming? You know the house needs cleaning. You know you'll feel better when it's done. You might even have the time to do it. And yet, somehow, you just can't seem to get started.

Well, there's actually some interesting psychology behind that. And since I happen to love taking behavioral science and figuring out how to use it in everyday life, that's what we're talking about this week.

In this week's edition of The Empowered Life, I'm sharing a little confession from my kitchen, along with our latest blog, "My House Is a Mess: How to Clean When Overwhelmed."

We're also getting ready to launch something new!

On October 27, we're kicking off our 30-Day Living Well Home Reset Challenge. And before you picture me handing you a color-coded cleaning schedule and telling you to scrub your baseboards, I promise that's not where we're going with this.

We're going to look at how to make caring for our homes feel more manageable, using practical strategies that work with our actual lives.

And, of course, I've included what's happening this week at Every Girl Living, including yoga and our Open Studio on Tuesday evening.

So grab your coffee, leave that suspicious container in the refrigerator for another few minutes, and come catch up with me.

Nine things went right today. One thing went wrong.

Guess which one your brain wants to talk about at 2 AM? 🙄

Why DO we do that?

Turns out, our brains have a tendency to give negative experiences more attention than positive ones. It's called negativity bias, and it's just one of the ways our thinking can shape how we experience the world.

Then there are our mental filters. Those sneaky little habits of thinking that can have us overlooking everything that's going right while building an entire case around what's going wrong.

And the really interesting part? We often don't even realize we're doing it.

In this week's EGL Deep Dive, we're exploring the psychology behind negative thinking, why certain thoughts seem to stick like glue, and what we can actually do about it.

Swipe through the carousel for a little psychology lesson, then join us for the deeper conversation.

Listen to The EGL Deep Dive: Why Do I Always Focus on the Negative?

https://vist.ly/5nteq?

Because sometimes the problem isn't that everything is going wrong. It's that our brains have gotten really good at keeping score of the wrong things.

Is it normal teenage behavior... or is something else going on?

The eye rolls. The slammed doors. The sudden need for privacy. And apparently, parents knowing absolutely nothing about anything. 😂

Welcome to adolescence.

But seriously, how do you know when your child's behavior is just part of growing up and when it might be time to get some extra support?

That's a question a lot of parents struggle with.

In her latest article, Janaé Carroll, RMHCI, breaks down four warning signs that your child or teen might benefit from counseling, along with some of the behaviors that are perfectly normal during adolescence.

One of the most important things to consider? Patterns. How long has the behavior been happening? How intense is it? And is it beginning to interfere with everyday life?

Because parenting doesn't come with a manual.
