I haven’t talked about this publicly, but as I write my third book, Becoming Unapologetically You, I’ve realize this is an important part of my own journey to share. Last year, I was invited by a manager to do a book signing at a local store. When the owner learned I was a Reiki practitioner, she said, “I’m sorry, we are a Jesus based store and we can’t have you here.“ I’ve always believed that rejection can be protection and redirection, so I wasn’t upset. But later, when my business strategy suggested, I leave Ricky practitioner off my LinkedIn profile, I complied. Then, in July, when I herniated my disc and found myself an excruciating pain, something inside me let go. I realized I was doing something I had done years ago as a le***an: I was putting part of myself back in the closet. This time, it was my identity as a Reiki practitioner and teacher. I was done hiding. When I joined Girlfriends of the Tri-Cities, I immediately sent that share, our hostess, was open and accepting. She embraced who I am, and I shared with her that otherwise, I had been keeping this part of myself quiet. Then at our Japanese art class, a natural conversation about spirituality emerged. I was able to share openly and freely, without feeling the need to edit or explain myself. The woman who hosted it at her home shared she had done healing, hands work! What a blessing it was to simply be myself. A few weeks ago I updated my LinkedIn profile to include Reiki practitioner. It may seem like a small change, but to me, it represents something much bigger. I am no longer willing to hide parts of who I am to make others more comfortable. As I continue writing, my third book, becoming unapologetically you, I’m reminded that becoming ourselves isn’t about turning into someone new. It’s about coming home to who we’ve always been. If you haven’t read my first two books, I invite you explore them. You’ll find links at my website www.lisabromfield.com. My books are teaching memoirs, sharing the raw honor journey, and remembering who we are letting go of what no longer serves us, and finding our way back to ourselves. Thank you for your continued support, kindness, and love.
