🐜 Here's a fun little lice fact you probably didn't know!

Believe it or not, head lice have been tagging along with humans for THOUSANDS of years! 😂

And here's the crazy part… scientists have actually studied the DNA of head lice from around the world to help figure out how our ancestors traveled and migrated, including how early humans made their way into the Americas!

Who would've thought these tiny little freeloaders could teach us so much about human history?! 🤯

You have lice?? OMG! You have to clean everything in your house. Put stuffed animals in a garbage bag for weeks. Vacuum the mattress and throw away hair brushes. Sanitize the carpets. Burn the pillows!

Thankfully, there is no need to do any of that!

"Back in the day" 30 plus years ago, it was assumed that head lice were more like bed bugs and fleas. They thought that lice were going to come out of your hair to live in your bed. They thought that lice could lay eggs on stuffed animals and in dolls hair.

It wasn't true but most did not know that

Over the years, there has been lots and lots of research on head lice. Researchers, entomologist know that it is impossible for that to happen. Head lice are parasites to the very definition of the word. The only way they can survive is by living on a host. Their only host in this universe is on the head of a living human being with hair.

That's it! No where else can viable head lice be found. And lice know this. They know if they come off of your head without going directly to another head, they are going to die and die quickly. They are not just w***y nilly hanging out on your couch.

They have crab like claws on the end of each of their tiny legs and they are holding on to your hair strand TIGHT. They know their life depends on them staying in your hair. Even when you wash your hair or go swimming, they are still there.

Say you woke up in the morning and there was a lice bug on your pillow. That little bug is going to sit there on the surface of your pillow. Possibly walk around in circles because it does not know what to do with itself. It would be like one of us being dropped off on Mars. It isn't going to run and hide to wait for you to come back later.

Now, every minute that the lice bug is off of the head it is rapidly dehydrating.

"But can't they live for like 2 days off of the head?"

The answer is yes but no. After just a few hours off of the head, that bug is literally shriveling up and drying out. It has become so dehydrated that it no longer can produce saliva. Once the saliva is gone it can no longer eat.
So, yes, the bug is still technically alive but it is so far gone that you could place that bug back into your hair and it is till going to die of starvation. It's to weak to hold on to your hair or produce saliva to bite you.

And this is why it is not necessary to stress about cleaning and bagging. A bug off of the head is a dying bug.

Researchers have been saying this for years. Unfortunately no one really likes to talk about lice. So when lice is talked about, the old information gets passed down from generation to generation causing unnecessary stress and fear.

And that's why I am here. To help you understand how head lice live and die. To educate anyone who wants to listen and learn. To help families know that having head lice is ridiculously common and it doesn't have to be a traumatizing experience.

Feel free to ask me any questions you have.
Feel free to contact me if you're struggling with lice and could use a bit help.

I am here to help in any way I can ❤️

🚨 Ever wonder how a child can get lice AGAIN so soon after being treated?

I get asked this all the time.

Here's something many people don't know

When lice have been living on a scalp, they leave behind tiny traces of themselves—they literally mark their territory and leave a scent behind. The pheromone tells the lice on a friends head that your child is a desirable living space. That they are clean and tasty. That scent can linger for weeks!

Once your child is back at school and their after school activities, they're around other children again.
They're now back in the environment where they picked them up in the first place.

Lice don't jump or fly—they crawl. All it takes is one close head-to-head moment for a louse to move from one child to another.

That's why I always recommend prevention after treatment— a good mint spray and KEEP LONG HAIR

Our Mint Defense Spray is one of the ways we help families reduce the risk of reinfestation. It leaves hair smelling fresh with peppermint and is designed to be part of a daily prevention routine, especially during school outbreaks.

No product can promise your child will never get lice again, but combining a preventative spray with keeping long hair tied back and doing regular head checks can make a big difference.

💜 Prevention is always easier than another treatment.
