Why does lash retention look SO different from person to person? 👀
This is a 2-week fill using traditional lash adhesive, and her retention is beautiful. But here’s the thing: two clients can follow the exact same aftercare routine and still have completely different retention.
One of the biggest factors people don’t talk about enough is your natural hair structure and porosity.
Your natural lashes have an outer layer made up of tiny cuticles. Some people naturally have a more porous lash surface, while others have smoother, more tightly closed cuticles. A smoother/less porous surface can sometimes be more challenging for adhesive to grip, while a more textured surface may give the adhesive more to hold onto.
Then we add in all the other little things that affect retention:
• Aftercare: Clean your lashes regularly with a lash-safe cleanser, rinse well, gently pat dry and brush them once they’re dry. Avoid picking, pulling or rubbing them.
• Lifestyle: Swimming, saunas, sweating, sleeping on your face, skincare products and how often you touch your eyes can all play a role.
• Natural lash cycle: We’re constantly shedding and growing new lashes, and everyone’s growth cycle is different.
• Skin + hair characteristics: Oil production, hair texture and the condition of the natural lash can affect how well an extension bonds.
So if your best friend walks into her 2-week fill looking like she still has a full set while yours are ready for some serious attention, it doesn’t automatically mean you did anything wrong.
Good retention is a combination of proper application + good aftercare + your individual lashes and lifestyle. 🤍
