🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Where Are They Now?

Every successful career has a starting point. For Megan Larson, that journey began with us - in the Health Information Management program at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

What started as an education in HIM has grown into an impressive career spanning healthcare technology, informatics, innovation, and leadership.

Since graduating, Megan has continued to build on the foundation she developed at KU, earning multiple Epic certifications, achieving Lean Six Sigma certification, and receiving the prestigious Judith J. Warren Informatics Excellence Award.

Her story is a powerful example of how an HIM degree can open doors far beyond traditional health information management roles, creating opportunities to lead change, improve healthcare systems, and make a lasting impact.

From an HIM student to an accomplished healthcare leader, Megan’s journey is a reminder that where you start can take you further than you ever imagined. ❤️💙

From the classroom to the healthcare team - our HIM seniors are putting their knowledge into action! 🎉

Our senior Health Information Management students are off to their first internship of the year with the Revenue Cycle Performance Excellence team at The University of Kansas Health System!

Running alongside their other classes, this internship gives students the opportunity to put classroom learning into practice. They’re divided into two groups focused on healthcare quality improvement:

📋 Inpatient Paper Process Assessment & Efficiency Opportunities — assessing paper-based processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.

💬 Patient Financial Services (PFS) Digital Engagement & Live Chat Implementation — exploring digital engagement and live chat to support the patient financial experience.

Through these projects, our students will gain hands-on experience, collaborate with healthcare professionals, and build connections that could open doors to future careers.

Thank you to the Revenue Cycle Performance Excellence team for investing in the next generation of HIM professionals. We can’t wait to see what our seniors learn and contribute! 💙
