MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT IS HERE. BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLAN, PLEASE READ THIS.
A $0 monthly plan premium can come at a much greater cost when you actually need medical care.
As healthcare providers at Restore Muscle and Joint, we believe patients deserve the freedom to choose their doctors, access medically necessary treatment, and receive care without unnecessary interference from insurance companies.
That is why we strongly favor Original Medicare (Parts A and π paired with a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) for patients who qualify and can afford the additional premiums.
We understand that Medicare Advantage plans are attractive. They advertise low premiums, dental benefits, vision coverage, and other extras.
But what those advertisements often fail to emphasize are the restrictions that can affect your healthcare when you need it most.
HERE ARE THE FACTS EVERY MEDICARE BENEFICIARY SHOULD KNOW:
1. YOUR CHOICE OF DOCTORS MAY BE LIMITED.
Medicare Advantage plans often restrict patients to specific networks of physicians, specialists, and hospitals.
With Original Medicare, you can generally see ANY physician or specialist nationwide who accepts Medicare. In most cases, no referral is required.

2. YOUR MEDICAL TREATMENT MAY REQUIRE INSURANCE COMPANY APPROVAL.
Many Medicare Advantage plans require prior authorization before approving certain procedures, imaging studies, rehabilitation services, or other treatments.
That means your physician may recommend care, but the insurance company must approve coverage before treatment proceeds.
Original Medicare generally has far fewer prior authorization requirements.

3. FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS FOUND MEDICALLY NECESSARY CARE WAS BEING DENIED.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General found that 13% of the Medicare Advantage prior authorization denials it reviewed actually met Original Medicareβs coverage rules.
These services likely would have been approved under traditional Medicare.
Think about that. Patients were denied authorization for services that met Medicare coverage requirements.

4. MILLIONS OF TREATMENT REQUESTS ARE DENIED.
According to KFFβs analysis of federal data:
* Medicare Advantage insurers fully or partially denied 4.1 MILLION prior authorization requests in 2024.
* Only 11.5% of those denials were appealed.
* More than 80% of appealed denials were ultimately overturned.
How many patients experienced unnecessary delays, or never appealed a denial?

5. A NEW 2026 FEDERAL INVESTIGATION REVEALED EVEN MORE CONCERNING RESULTS.
In June 2026, the HHS Office of Inspector General reported that Medicare Advantage insurers overturned 95% of appealed prior authorization denials for skilled nursing facility admission among the insurers studied.
These findings raise serious concerns about patients initially being denied access to needed care following hospitalization.

6. A $0 PLAN PREMIUM DOES NOT MEAN FREE HEALTHCARE.
Medicare Advantage beneficiaries may still face copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, network restrictions, and substantial annual out-of-pocket expenses.
Original Medicare paired with a comprehensive Medicare Supplement may cost more each month, but it can provide greater freedom in choosing providers and more predictable expenses for covered services.
OUR POSITION AS HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS IS SIMPLE:
We believe medical decisions should be driven by patients and their healthcare professionals, with as few unnecessary insurance barriers as possible.
While Medicare Advantage may be appropriate for some individuals, we encourage patients to seriously consider the long-term advantages of Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement.
Your health insurance should work for you when you need it most, not just look attractive when you enroll.
MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT: OCTOBER 15 THROUGH DECEMBER 7, 2026.
Before making your decision:
* Compare Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement against Medicare Advantage.
* Ask your physicians which plans they accept.
* Consider your future healthcare needs, not just todayβs premiums.
* Review your prescription drug coverage.
* Speak with an independent Medicare insurance professional who can explain all your options.
IMPORTANT: If you already have Medicare Advantage and want to switch to Original Medicare, confirm that you qualify for a Medicare Supplement before changing coverage. Medigap enrollment protections are different from annual Medicare Open Enrollment.
