When healing becomes an endless project of fixing ourselves, it can become a form of self-rejection and self-abandonment rather than genuine growth and evolution. Healing does not come from self-rejection. It comes from self-acceptance.
An integral part of healing is learning to accept and love all parts of ourselves, even the parts we struggle with.
For true change to be embodied, we have to learn to integrate all the parts of ourselves, not just the ones we like. Otherwise, we’re simply rejecting our own humanity.
But acceptance doesn’t necessarily mean approval. We can acknowledge and accept parts of ourselves without approving of the behaviors that come from them. We can take responsibility for our actions without condemning ourselves for being human.
You’re not here to recover from who you are. You’re here to remember who you are and consciously create who you want to become.
Growth is important. Recognizing patterns, behaviors, and beliefs that no longer serve us and choosing to change them is part of that growth. But that doesn’t mean constantly picking ourselves apart or abandoning the parts we don’t like.
It means learning to approach those parts with compassion, understanding, and acceptance. It means recognizing that even the parts of ourselves we wish to change deserve love.
We don’t have to reject who we are to become who we want to be.
