Your brain is part of your body. Feed it accordingly.
When we talk about food as medicine, we often think about blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure or weight.
But the brain needs nourishment, too.
Colorful plant foods provide a wide variety of nutrients and phytonutrients that help support the systems our brains depend onāincluding antioxidant defenses, healthy blood vessels, metabolic health and normal cellular function.
š„¬ Greens provide compounds such as lutein and other carotenoids, along with phytonutrients found in cruciferous vegetables.
š Orange and yellow foods provide carotenoids such as beta-carotene.
š
Red and pink foods can provide compounds such as lycopene.
š Purple foods, including Okinawan sweet potato, are rich in anthocyanins.
And the goal isnāt to find one āsuperfood.ā
Itās to eat a variety of colorful, minimally processed plant foods consistently.
Food isnāt a replacement for counseling, medication, or other mental health treatment when those are neededābut nutrition is one important piece of caring for the whole person.
Feed the body. Nourish the brain.
