Grief doesn’t just live in the heart. 🤍

Grief often shows up in the lungs, chest, neck, and shoulders.

When we experience deep emotional stress or loss, our nervous system can influence how we breathe and where we hold tension. Breathing may become more shallow, the muscles around the chest may feel guarded, and tension can spread into the neck and shoulders.

The lining around the lungs, called the pleura, plays an important role in how the lungs move as we breathe. While grief doesn’t necessarily restrict this tissue directly, changes in breathing and tension throughout the body can affect how comfortable and free breathing feels.

This is why, after a loss, people may notice:

• Tightness or heaviness in the chest
• Shallow breathing
• Neck stiffness
• Shoulder pain
• Headaches and upper-back tension

Your body responds to grief in its own way, just as it responds to physical stress.

Sometimes, we carry tension without even realizing it. And sometimes, our bodies need a little extra support as we navigate what our hearts are going through.

At R3 Physio, we look beyond the symptoms to understand how the body, nervous system, breathing, and connective tissues may be connected. Because healing isn't just about addressing where it hurts—it's about caring for the whole person.

Take a slow, comfortable breath. Let your shoulders soften. Give yourself permission to move through this one step at a time.

Your grief deserves compassion. Your body deserves care. And you don't have to navigate it alone. 🤍

We’ve got you when you’re ready.

Ever notice your stomach tighten when you’re stressed… or feel a heaviness in your chest after heartbreak? ❤️‍🩹

Your emotions don’t just live in your mind. Your body can feel them, too.

When we experience emotional stress, our nervous system can influence muscle tension, breathing, movement, and the way we carry ourselves.

And sometimes, that tension can linger long after the stressful moment has passed.

It may show up as:
✨ Persistent tightness or stiffness
✨ Headaches and neck tension
✨ Changes in breathing or posture
✨ Digestive discomfort
✨ Pain that seems to come out of nowhere

Your mind may have moved on, but your body may still be responding to what you’ve experienced.

Here’s the fascinating part: Stress doesn’t always show up in the moment. Changes in your body can become noticeable later, too. While there’s no established rule that fascia responds to emotional stress exactly 48 hours later, the connection between stress, your nervous system, and physical tension is very real.

At R3 Physio, we look beyond where it hurts to better understand what your body may be responding to. Because sometimes, helping your body feel safe enough to release tension starts with understanding the bigger picture. 🤍

What if the place you’re feeling symptoms isn’t actually where the problem started? 👀

You might come to us because of abdominal pain, low back tightness, or even concerns like bedwetting in kids. But the area where symptoms show up is often only one piece of a much bigger picture.

That’s because your body doesn’t function as a collection of separate parts. It functions as one interconnected system.

Your low back connects with your pelvis.
Your pelvis interacts with your diaphragm.
Your diaphragm influences your neck and nervous system.
And your fascia creates connections throughout all of these tissues.

When one area isn’t moving or functioning well, your body is incredibly good at adapting. Another area may start compensating to keep you moving, and over time, that compensation can become part of the problem.

That’s why at R3 Physio, we don’t stop at the spot that hurts.

We zoom out.

We may look at your neck, ribcage, abdomen, pelvis, organs, hips, fascia, and nervous system to understand how the pieces may be influencing one another.

Because if we only chase the symptom, we may miss what’s actually contributing to it.

Our systems-based approach is about understanding the whole person and helping the body function better together, not simply treating one isolated body part.

Sometimes the key to making progress is looking somewhere you never thought to look. 🔍

What if the place you feel pain… isn’t the only place we need to look?

Your body doesn’t function as a collection of separate parts. It’s one interconnected system.

Your low back interacts with your pelvis.
Your pelvis interacts with your hips and abdomen.
Your diaphragm influences your ribcage and the way you breathe and move.
Your neck, nervous system, fascia, and other structures throughout your body can all influence how you adapt.

And when one area isn’t moving or functioning well, your body is incredibly good at finding another way.

For a while, that compensation may work.

But eventually, another area may start doing more than it was designed to do—and that may be where symptoms finally show up.

That’s why at R3 Physio, we don’t automatically assume the painful area is the whole problem.

If your low back hurts, we’re still going to evaluate your low back. But we may also need to look at your pelvis, hips, ribcage, breathing, nervous system, or other areas that could be contributing to the pattern we’re seeing.

Neck → ribcage → diaphragm → abdomen → pelvis → hips → nervous system.

It’s all connected.

That’s why your treatment at R3 is built around what your body is showing us—not a one-size-fits-all plan based solely on where you hurt.

We want the freedom to ask a better question than simply, “Where does it hurt?”

We want to understand: What might be contributing to why it keeps hurting?

That whole-body perspective allows us to build treatment around your specific pattern rather than treating one body part in isolation.

Because you’re not just a back.
Or a hip.
Or a neck.

You’re a whole person—and we believe your treatment should reflect that.

Curious what a systems-based approach could uncover for you? Send us a message. We’d love to hear what you’ve been dealing with.

Having more treatment options doesn’t mean using all of them on everyone.

And Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a perfect example.

At R3 Physio, we don’t use FSM simply because it’s available. We look at the person in front of us first—and then decide whether it actually makes sense for what their body is dealing with.

FSM may be something we consider when we’re working with things like:

→ Persistent neck or back pain that seems to involve more than just stiffness
→ Certain headache or migraine patterns
→ Long-standing inflammatory issues
→ A nervous system that feels constantly “on” or highly sensitive
→ Scars or post-surgical areas that continue to feel tight, hot, or irritated

But there are also times when FSM isn’t appropriate.

For example, we avoid using it with pacemakers or implanted electronic devices, as well as over areas with known or suspected cancer.

And that’s okay.

Because FSM is one tool—not the treatment.

If it isn’t the right fit, we have other ways to work with your body using the hands-on, movement-based, and whole-system approaches that are already part of what we do at R3 Physio.

The real question is never just, “Could we use FSM?”

It’s: “What does your body need—and which tools make the most sense to help it get there?”

That answer starts with listening to your story, evaluating what’s actually going on, and building your treatment around you.

Curious whether FSM could have a place in your care? Send us a message and let’s talk.

You may have heard us talking about Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) lately… so what exactly is it, and why are we bringing it into R3 Physio?

FSM uses an extremely gentle, low-level electrical current—so gentle that most people barely feel it, if they feel anything at all.

But here’s where it gets interesting 👇

Rather than using one general setting, FSM allows us to choose specific frequency combinations based on the tissues and systems we’re addressing—and adjust those frequencies throughout the session based on how your body responds.

That means we can use FSM to complement the bigger picture of your care, whether we’re working to support:

→ irritated or sensitive tissues
→ inflammation and recovery
→ tissue healing
→ cellular energy production
→ a system that needs a little extra help calming down

And that last part is important.

We’re not adding FSM because we believe one device is the answer to everything. We’re adding it because it gives us another tool to support the whole system alongside the hands-on treatment, movement, and integrative approach we already use at R3 Physio.

Because sometimes progress isn’t about doing MORE.

It’s about giving the body the right input at the right time.

Curious what FSM could look like as part of your treatment? Send us a message—we’d be happy to talk through it with you.

People are often surprised when they find out we don’t do quick 10-minute evaluations.

There’s a reason.

By the time someone lands at R3 Physio in Keller, it’s usually not a simple, first-time injury.

It’s chronic hip or pelvic pain.

Years of headaches or TMJ issues.

An ankle that still hurts even though the scans look “normal.”

Or symptoms that move around and never seem to quite make sense.

You can’t understand that in 10 minutes.

That’s why we take a different approach.

“Systems-based PT” isn’t just a fancy term. It means we don’t assume the painful body part is the whole story.

We’re looking at how your:

-Spine, pelvis, ribs, feet, and jaw share load
-Gut, scars, airway, and pelvic floor may influence movement
-Nervous system responds to everything happening around it

And just as importantly, we want to hear YOUR story — your injuries, surgeries, stress, symptoms, and the ways your body has adapted over time.

So our evaluations are longer and one-on-one.

Not because we like making things complicated.

Because you can’t map a complicated problem by checking a few boxes and printing an exercise sheet.

We want enough uninterrupted time to actually see the pattern.

If you’ve ever felt rushed through an exam and then left wondering, “Okay… but why is this happening?”

This is why we chose a different model.

Why am I working on someone’s low back and pelvis… when their complaint is foot and ankle pain?

Because the problem isn’t always where you feel it.

Your nerves don’t start at your ankle.

They exit the spine, travel through the pelvis and hip, and run all the way down the leg. So if there’s stiffness, restriction, or poor mobility around the lumbar spine or pelvic girdle, those nerves can experience extra tension higher up — and that can show up as symptoms farther down the chain, even when the ankle itself looks “normal.”

And there’s another piece people often overlook.

Congestion around the groin, hip, or pelvis — where a lot of lymphatic and vascular structures are located — can affect how fluid moves through the area. When that system isn’t moving well, it can contribute to inflammation and swelling farther down the chain, including at the foot and ankle.

So in this session, we’re not just chasing the painful spot.

We’re:

-Assessing how the low back and pelvis move
-Addressing how the nerves glide through this region
-Supporting fluid movement so the ankle has a better chance to calm down

This is what systems-based care looks like: looking at the connections instead of assuming the pain tells the whole story.

This is a pattern we see often at R3 Physio. If your foot or ankle pain doesn’t quite make sense, a deeper look at the entire system may be exactly what’s missing.
