It's no secret that OCTOBER is BREAST CANCER AWARENESS month.
What might be a secret? all the random thoughts that can run through your mind when you are getting your mammogram...
π©·even medical providers can at times forget to prioritize their health
π©·seeing positive messages about strength, perseverance, empowerment matter
π©·you aren't allowed to wear deodorant or lotions/perfumes...
π©·ya gotta let the mammographer know if you have had a recent vaccine
π©·at my worst, I do sometimes wish men still had to get annual digital prostate exams. Between the pap smears and the b**b smashes, I mean....can't we share in the awkward medical procedures??
π©·in the last 2 decades, hormone therapy prescriptions drastically reduced for women and yet breast cancer rates continue to rise...
π©·no matter how many normal mammograms you have, it's hard not to be headed into the next one without feeling some anxiety about "will this time be the time they find something?"
Breast cancer is about more than pink ribbons and mammogram reminders and giggles about gender disparities that is for sure.
Some simple ways to reduce your risk of getting breast cancer (whether FEMALE OR MALE)
maintain a healthy weight, healthy food, regular physical activity, limiting alcohol, avoid smoking, use of certain medications or surgical procedures depending on your personal risk (i.e. strong family history).
