Noltrex®Vet Success Series: Navicular Bursa Injections for Long Term Navicular Management

Navicular Syndrome is a complex group of conditions which can be very difficult to manage in the equine athlete. One intensive form of treatment has been to inject the navicular bursa (a fluid filled structure associated with the navicular bone, the deep flexor tendon, impar ligament and other critical structures) with a corticosteroid. Unfortunately, even with potent corticosteroid treatments, many horses only get a few weeks to months of comfort from this type of injection.
Recently veterinarians have been achieving 6 to 8 months of comfort with the addition of Noltrex®Vet to their navicular bursa injections.
Managing chronic, but stable forms of navicular syndrome is a complicated discussion. Ask your vet if Noltrex®Vet is right for your horse.
