In 2025, ADHV created 170 devices. So far in 2026, we’ve created 338 and the year isn’t over yet!

That’s nearly double the number of devices in just one year. But for us, this growth is about much more than numbers.

Every device starts with a person, a specific challenge, and a conversation about what might help. Behind each one is creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and a community of people who believe everyday barriers can be overcome.

As ADHV grows, so do the opportunities to help people participate more fully in the activities that matter to them.

Thank you to everyone who makes this work possible—from the people who share their needs to the therapists, educators, volunteers, donors, and community partners who help turn ideas into solutions.

More devices. More people. More possibilities. And we’re just getting started.

Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting down for a conversation on the Be the Light with Sarah MacHugh podcast!

Sarah volunteers with the United States Lighthouse Society. In 2022, she was invited to create a segment for their podcast, Light Hearted, connecting the symbolism of lighthouses with community building and the importance of spreading good news.

What an honor to be part of that story! We talked about the work happening at Adaptive Design Hudson Valley, the people who make it possible, and the power of communities coming together to create meaningful change.

The episode is out NOW (Link to Spotify is in our Bio)! Be sure to check out Be the Light Podcast to hear more inspiring stories from across our communities.

Thank you, Sarah, for having us and for creating space to share these stories!

Meet Annette, one of our wonderful volunteers who brings so much creativity, kindness, curiosity, and joy to ADHV!

Before joining our team, Annette spent more than 40 years as a neonatal nurse practitioner, caring for some of the tiniest and sickest newborns. She recognized the connection to adaptive design almost immediately after walking through our doors.

These days, you’ll most often find Annette painting and adding those finishing touches that bring our projects to life. From our train and weighted books to the flower truck, she loves the creativity and collaboration that happen in the shop. She also enjoys seeing our interns grow throughout their time at ADHV.

Annette describes painting and collaborating for a couple of hours as a joy—and we feel just as lucky to have her here! Her artistic talents, thoughtful presence, and enthusiasm make our workshop a brighter place.

💛 A special thank-you to Annette for lending us supplies for Swing Night! She’s always finding ways to contribute, whether through her artwork, her generosity, or simply the positive energy she brings into the room.

We’re so grateful you found your way to ADHV, Annette!

These three rocking perches were created entirely from volunteer help and are now in use at Saugerties Central School District!

From fabrication to finishing touches, projects like this are made possible because people choose to share their time, skills, creativity, and curiosity with ADHV.

And a special shoutout to Anna for the beautiful paint job!

This is just one example of what happens when volunteers bring their talents into our workshop. Whether you love building, designing, painting, organizing, teaching, problem-solving, or just want to learn something new, there’s a place for you here.
