Study sheds light on the challenges faced by people over 90 when they experience falls. Among the participants:
• 60% fell at least once during the year.
• 80% of those who fell were unable to get up without help on at least one occasion.
• 30% of falls resulted in the person lying on the floor for an hour or more.
• 82% of these falls occurred when the individual was alone.
This study highlights the critical need for proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our elderly loved ones. Stay vigilant and consider the importance of fall prevention strategies and quick access to help.

Avoidance behavior:
Do you avoid behaviors when you have pain or fear? It makes us avoid things that we love to do.
Fear avoidance can be considered protective, but over time can lead to decreased participation in meaningful activities and eventually disability.
This can lead to more chronic pain and other states of mind like depression. Withdrawing from our environment can be a cascading spiral.
Working through fear can create resilience in our bodies and minds and maintain things like family, work, and just plain having fun.
I hope you all go out there and live well and move for life this weekend!

🧠 Words of wisdom for therapists: Don’t assume. Appearance is not everything, especially with pain. Structure is not the first symptom we should look for when managing pain with our clients. Rather, we should consider the whole motor system and its physiological, social, and physical history. I have found that the less I focus on the external structure, the less likely I am to be misled. Encouraging movement and strengthening the entire locomotor system has proven to be the most effective pain reliever that I have found for my clients. So, don’t assume. Looks can be deceiving. 🙌
