You may know God loves you and still talk to yourself in a voice you’d never let anyone else use. I lived with that voice for years, even while I was praying.

At the end of October, I’m speaking at the Faith, Marriage & Entrepreneurship Summit, a free virtual summit for Christian women who are building businesses, loving their husbands, and raising families while trying to hear God through all of it.

My conversation is “Whole From the Inside Out: How Healing Your Relationship With Your Body Changes the Way You Love, Lead & Build.”

We talk about how many of us use food and body obsession to hide from what God is calling us to do. We talk about where that shame really comes from and why God meets us right there.

The session goes live Thursday, October 29 at 12:00 PM ET.

Registration is free, and I’d love to see you there.

Recently my very best wasn’t good enough, and it felt like proof of the oldest belief I carry: I’m not enough.

I was working harder than I ever have and kept making mistakes, and underneath it all I found a sweet, sad part of me that was certain the belief was true. Trying harder was the one thing she didn’t need from me.

So many women live by a standard for their food, their body, and their worth that someone else handed them, and until they meet that tender part with love, every mistake becomes more evidence against them.

Be-Friend Yourself is the book I wrote for that part of you. The bundle of the book, the audiobook, and the workbook is on special for my book’s birthday. Comment BEFRIEND and I’ll send you the link and coupon code.

"Really, you? You always seem so confident."

That's what people said when I finally told them. For decades I stayed in the same fifteen-pound range while counting every calorie, exercising off every bite, and cancelling interviews when an outfit didn't fit perfectly. I kept putting my life on hold until my body looked right.

You're the woman everyone sees as having it together, and food and your body are the one place you still keep score. I wrote BE-Friend Yourself for you. Inside is the one question that turned it around for me, the tools I still reach for when that old voice gets loud, and the stories of women who stopped keeping score.

Here are some highlights of our Germany trip.

We had just come from Pittsburgh where it was connection after connection, eighteen of us at Deep Creek, family everywhere, so much love and noise and laughter, and Germany was a completely different kind of experience. Quiet walks in the forest behind Olaf’s house, early fall weather that I never get living in Maui, sitting with his mother who is one of the most soft and beautiful human beings I know and who just turned eighty. My nervous system went from overwhlem to underwhelm. and it took some time to adjust.

And something else was happening underneath all of it that I want to share because I think you’ll recognize it. I was in the middle of so much beauty and so much love and so much that I was genuinely grateful for, and there was also this ache. A homesickness that had been building after three months away from Maui, just this quiet longing to be somewhere else even while I was fully appreciating something wonderful.

I kept noticing how many things can be happening in us at the same time. Gratitude and aching, fullness and longing, connection and a deep desire for home, and none of those things cancel each other out. I think we make ourselves wrong for that, like we should just be happy because look at everything we have. But when I stopped trying to sort out which feeling was the right one and just let them all be there, something relaxed.

The ache didn’t go away but it stopped feeling like a problem.

That’s what I keep coming back to from this whole summer. How multilayered we are as human beings and how much more of life we get to experience when we stop making ourselves wrong for all of it.

Pittsburgh was a social marathon and I loved every single minute of it. We got a big house at Deep Creek with eighteen of us, laughing, eating together, going out on the boat, riding bikes, walking, connecting with my grandnieces. And then back at my parents’ house it was a different kind of full, cards and co****le every night with Aspen and my mom and dad just being together. Hanging out with my sisters, bike rides, walks, long talks.

People ask me how I can be with family for that long and actually enjoy it. And I always tell them that I’ve done a lot of work on myself and learned how to navigate being together in a really intentional way. Getting enough sleep, keeping up with my prayer and meditation, really tuning in to what I need. There were moments where I could feel fear creeping in around doing too much and instead of pushing through I would stop, get present, pray. Sometimes I would realize it was just fear and I could keep going. Sometimes I realized my body genuinely needed more rest or more quiet time to myself.

My cup runneth over. That’s really the only way I can describe it. Germany here we come
