Books and Botanicals…

At first glance, you might be wondering what do bookstore and skincare company have in common?

Well, more than you might think…

We are 2 moms with 2 kids each, running 2 independent small woman-owned businesses.

At some point, both of us took a break from our corporate careers to spend more time with our children and pursue our respective personal passions.

Montana loves to curate reads for readers of all ages in her independent bookstore from children’s picture books to literary fiction for adults while Anita loves to formulate and curate small batch organic skincare for all ages to allow her clients enjoy life without worrying about dry skin or cuticles, mosquito bites, chapped lips, and cracked heels.

Both of us are strong proponents of the art of slowing down in our fast-paced world, Montana through her cozy and welcoming space in her bookstore and Anita through her organic skincare formulated with clean and simple ingredients.

What we both enjoy the most is to be part of our local community while celebrating the small joys of life.

The other day, I folded like a deck of cards with a classic case of flu.

Within couple of hours of constant coughing and sneezing, I was sporting Rudolph the Reindeer look. At that point, my red nose could had been spotted from out of space.

I think one of the most frustrating things when I get sick is how raw and sensitive skin around my nose gets.

🌼Our Botanical Goodness Calendula balm.

If you have been a client of ours for a while and/or follower, you know that I love working with calendula for its many known applications/benefits on the skin including:

🌼soothing irritated skin including irritated skin around the nose from constant sneezing and

🌼speed up wound repair (not open wounds) including cuts, scrapes and blemishes.

As we are heading into flu and cold season, I thought I share this benefit as it is one of less known benefits of our Botanical Goodness Calendula Balm.

I am completely out! Anyone else?

Autumn is in the air! You can sense it is peaking around the corner. Typically there is no need for our Post Mosquito Bite Salve this late in the season but lately the pesky mosquitoes have been absolutely viscous by us and got my number on speed dial.

Plus, they were hanging out in our backyard most of the summer, in the case there were none by you, hence our personal Post Mosquito Bite Salve jar is entirely empty, not even one drop left. I mean not one single drop!!!

I scraped out the very last drop yesterday evening!

I was walking Carly, our beloved canine, and all the mosquitoes in our neighborhood must have received the memo that we are out for our walk. A full on siege took place.

And now I am covered in itching bites head to toes.

Grrr!!!

At this point of the year, I usually do not make fresh batch until closer to Thanksgiving holiday when folks travel to warmer client.

However this year, I decided that it is time to make one more batch of the season if my ankles and arms are to be happy again.

Why would I want to be out on humid, muggy, overcast Sunday morning with potential chance of rain any minute?

Well it also happens to be perfect weather for testing new product prototype while dodging pesky mosquitoes plus Carly needed a nice long hike in the woods too.

As this new potential product is still in prototype phase and work in progress over last few summers, I always carry my summer go-to, our Post Mosquito Bite Salve! 🤓

Happy to report that I did not have to use it once today. 😎

Rodina for real life!

Mosquitoes just love me this time of the year!!!

These pesky suckers find me no matter what! I mean even if nobody else gets bitten, they love me.

My first and only line of defense as we do not spray our garden with harmful chemicals for mosquitoes, I always carry our Post Mosquito Bite Salve on me, especially if I am out in the garden towards the late afternoon and evening.

It was no different just now while I harvested some herbs to use for tonight’s roasted chicken and tomorrow’s herb butter over the grilled steak.

I keep the jar handy in my basket and apply the salve as soon as I get bitten.

Our aloe vera-based salve infused with our proprietary blend of essential oils soothe the bite and lets me carry on with my life.

Our new ARNICA Balm is here! 🌿🌼🪴

We are finally ready to share our third balm in our multi-purpose trilogy of botanical balms with the world.

As always, there is a story behind how this product came about and why. We promise that we will share its journey at some later time. Right now though, let us introduce the main ingredient of this beautiful botanical goodness.

🌼Meet ARNICA!🌼

🌼This herb is part of the sunflower family and comes from Arnica montana or also known as mountain Arnica or wolf’s bane, a yellow flower that grows in mountains of Siberia and Europe.

🌼In topical form, Arnica is known to have both anti-inflammatory properties that help stimulate blood flow through body as well as anti-bacterial properties.

🌼Our multi-purpose, herbal infused oil-based balm can be applied to help soothe a wide variety of skin related issues including reducing inflammation, skin irritation, bruising from procedures and injuries, dry skin, and scrapes. However, always apply to intact skin and avoid applying on broken skin or open wounds.

‼️Warming: Even though it is natural ingredient, some individuals may experience allergic reactions or skin sensitivity to Arnica, as such please ensure to conduct patch testing on inside of your wrist first before full
application.

Only one week away from our 5th anniversary get- together .co ! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

👉You might be wondering what do organic skincare and Mahjong have in common?

💕Desire to hold space for creating long lasting connections.💕

Since we announced that we will celebrate this year’s anniversary by learning how to play Mahjong, my new favorite METime, we received a few inquiries along the following lines:

👉 Is not Mahjong difficult? Is not it complicated?

Maybe the initial five to ten minutes but after that, no, not really. However it is lot of fun! Plus I like to think of it as nice workout for my perimenopausal brain 🤓

Our hope is to learn something new together while meeting other Rodina clients/their friends, have chilled and technology-free evening with plenty of laugher and good time.

Crystal from .co designed her Mahjong101 class for absolute novices and folks that may have played once or twice and are just looking for a little refresher.
