While Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy offers many wellness benefits, HBOT is a medical procedure, not a wellness trend. It requires a clear emergency preparedness plan, safety protocols, and a highly trained medical team.

Watch Scott, our Director of Hyperbaric Operations & Safety, explain how to ensure the HBOT facility you choose meets all safety standards.

When the body is under ongoing stress, the nervous system can remain stuck in a heightened state of alert. This “fight-or-flight” response is designed to protect us during short-term danger, but when it stays activated for long periods, it may contribute to fatigue, poor sleep, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, muscle tension, headaches, and a general feeling of being unable to fully relax.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is being explored for its potential effects on the brain and nervous system. Proposed mechanisms of HBOT include supporting cellular energy production, reducing certain inflammatory processes, promoting the formation of new blood vessels, and encouraging neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to adapt and form new connections. For individuals experiencing neurological symptoms, these effects may support the body’s natural recovery processes.

If you feel like your body is constantly “on,” understanding the role of the nervous system and exploring therapies that support recovery may be an important first step. At Oxygen Oasis Hyperbaric Wellness Center, every new patient begins with a consultation with a hyperbaric physician. During the consultation, the physician reviews the patient’s medical history, symptoms, goals, and any relevant records to determine whether HBOT may be appropriate.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a valuable tool in the comprehensive care of burn patients and those suffering from severe skin damage. By enhancing the body’s natural healing processes, HBOT offers faster recovery and reduced complications. Surprisingly, HBOT application for burn injuries is based on a serendipitous finding. Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders usually characterized by impaired motor function. The exact cause of the disease is usually difficult to pinpoint, but injury to the brain before, during, or shortly after birth are comon causes leading to a cerebral palsy diagnosis.

People with cerebral palsy usually have lower blood flow and metabolism in the brain. This is where HBOT can help improve quality of life for people living with cerebral palsy. Typically, 20 times more oxygen is dissolved into the body during HBOT. The increased oxygen being pumped into the body also increases the blood flow to the brain. HBOT can neutralize toxins in the brain and, over time, promote new blood vessel growth. HBOT reduces pressure in the brain linked to swelling, which can aid in the repair of the blood-brain barrier and cell membrane.

A study from IdealofMeD Medical Center, a leading medical and research center for advanced hair restoration procedures, has found that patients who received HBOT after hair transplantation reported better post-op healing. The study included 220 male patients who underwent hair transplantation between April 2025 and June 2026, with approximately 3,200 to 4,500 grafts transplanted per procedure. In this sample, 55 patients received no HBOT, 97 patients received one HBOT session, and 68 patients received two HBOT sessions.

The findings showed a consistent pattern: patients who received HBOT reported better recovery outcomes than those who did not. Patients' self-assessments, along with blinded assessments by the research team, confirmed faster recovery, better overall healing, less pain and soreness, and faster improvement in scalp redness among patients who underwent HBOT. The two-session group generally recorded higher numerical scores across several measures, showing that increasing the number of HBOT sessions produces proportionally better recovery after hair transplantation.

Chronic brain hypoxia is a general term used to describe persistent or recurring inadequate oxygen availability in brain tissue. It may be associated with traumatic brain injury, stroke, cardiac or respiratory events, carbon monoxide exposure, sleep-related breathing disorders, vascular problems, or other medical conditions.

The brain depends on a continuous supply of oxygen to function properly. When oxygen delivery is reduced, even without a complete loss of blood flow, brain cells may struggle to produce the energy needed for concentration, memory, balance, mood regulation, and other essential functions.

Clinical studies have reported improvements in cognitive function, movement, quality of life, and brain activity following a prescribed series of HBOT treatments in selected patients with chronic neurological deficits.

HBOT may benefit brain function by:
- Increasing oxygen delivery to areas with reduced blood flow
- Supporting cellular energy production
- Helping regulate inflammation
- Encouraging the formation of new blood vessels
- Supporting neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to develop and reorganize neural connections
- Assisting the repair and maintenance of injured tissue
