The Lansing Emergency Medical Services Board has reviewed the special investigation report released by the Iowa Auditor of State.
The report examined records and transactions covering the period from 2019 through 2025 and identified concerns related primarily to volunteer recognition activities, documentation, record retention, and governance practices.
We appreciate the Auditor's Office for its work and the opportunity to improve our organization. Since January 2025, a dedicated group of EMS volunteers has worked diligently alongside state and county officials to strengthen financial oversight, improve documentation and recordkeeping practices, and enhance organizational governance. Their commitment reflects a shared goal of ensuring Lansing EMS remains a trusted and sustainable service for the communities we proudly serve.
We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the EMS staff and volunteers who continue to serve our communities. Rural Iowa depends on volunteers willing to answer emergency calls day and night, and attracting and retaining those individuals is one of the greatest challenges facing emergency services today. Their dedication to caring for our neighbors during some of life's most difficult moments should not be overlooked.
We view this report as an opportunity to learn, improve, and strengthen our organization. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and ensuring Lansing EMS continues to provide reliable emergency medical services to our communities for years to come.
