Did you know that having a disability alone does not automatically qualify someone for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)?

To be eligible for SSDI, individuals generally must:
✅ Have a medical condition that prevents them from performing substantial work
✅ Have a condition expected to last at least 12 months (or result in death)
✅ Have worked and paid into Social Security long enough to earn sufficient work credits

Social Security disability benefits can provide crucial income support, but eligibility is notoriously strict.

♾️ As more employers use to screen job applicants, many candidates may be unfairly filtered out before ever speaking to a human. AI hiring systems often evaluate things like eye contact, speech patterns, personality traits, and career paths using neurotypical standards, which can disadvantage qualified autistic and other neurodivergent applicants. True workplace means designing hiring processes that recognize talent and skills—not how well someone fits an algorithm's idea of the "perfect" candidate.

This Disability Pride Month, let's celebrate the disabled leaders who are transforming industries, challenging stereotypes, and proving that disability is a source of strength, innovation, and leadership. From education and policy to business, media, fashion, and advocacy, these changemakers are creating a more inclusive world while reminding us that authentic representation matters. Their success is a powerful reminder that when disabled people are empowered to lead, entire communities benefit. At ASPPIRE of Mid-Michigan, we're proud to celebrate the voices, talents, and achievements of people with disabilities—not just this month, but every day. 💙

The leaders highlighted are working across policy, literacy and the creator economy ensuring the movement continues and the legacy of those who came before us is honored

In a world full of diagnosis lists and different disabilities, why does it often feel like kink is only accessible to certain bodies and brains? This class will touch on different ways to customize your kink to your needs, instead of the other way around. Learn how creative scene building and assistive devices can accommodate physical limitations and result in fulfilling scenes and dynamics while living with disability. Re-frame how negotiations and aftercare can look to help overcome barriers from sensory issues or mental illness. Kink is for everyone, that includes you.

🌈 Disability is not a single identity—and everyone's experience is unique.

Many people in the disability community hold multiple identities that shape how they experience the world. Race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, culture, age, socioeconomic status, and disability all intersect in ways that can influence access to opportunities, healthcare, education, employment, and community belonging.

Understanding intersectionality helps us create more inclusive spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued for all aspects of who they are. It reminds us that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to disability advocacy and support.

Embracing diverse experiences strengthens our communities and helps build a world where everyone can thrive. By listening to different perspectives and uplifting marginalized voices, we can create more meaningful inclusion for all.

This virtual training explores intersectionality and how disability, race, gender, and other identities shape lived experience.
