Before ending a benefits call, take a minute to say the next step back in your own words.
For example: โHere is what I understood: I need to contact this office, provide these items through the approved process, and follow up on this date.โ Give the representative a chance to correct anything you missed.
Keep a private note of the date, the department you spoke with, any reference number, and where to find the written instructions. If something is still unclear, ask for a plain-language explanation before you finish.
Benefits, eligibility and requirements vary. Your own plan can confirm what applies to you.
What makes instructions easier for you to follow: numbered steps, a checklist, or a short summary?
Keep member numbers, addresses and health information out of comments.
