So many of my littles get in trouble for being too handsy. They’re great at fighting when denied access to something, but don’t have the flight response. All of my antecedent strategies boil down to teaching them how to turn their body and walk away when mad/frustrated/told “no”. Stop dysregulation in its tracks by changing the sensory channel! Engage the senses by offering things to smell, taste, see, hear and touch. For example, lower and raise the window blinds for BIG visuals. Or play an upbeat song—LOUD. Sometimes a channel change is enough to help people self-regulate to power through the rest of their session! #iloveaba #abaallday

If you live in Nevada, please call Senator Brooks and ask him to move SB96 out of committee. It would increase the reimbursement rate for RBTs. RBTs work with people with autism. If we don’t get a higher reimbursement rate, there are fewer services available for people with autism in Nevada. Thank you!

SB96 addresses provider capacity by increasing the medicaid provider rate.

Post #2 of 3! How to get clients to give up their reinforcers?!? Be more fun than their favorite toy! Hide toys to find them! Hide yourself! Roll around like a ninja. Go there. One of my favorite “pre-write-ups” from when I was a teacher is when I laid down in the middle of a classroom and waited for them to stop acting like fools. Took about .9 of a second. (This didn’t help my defense to admin, btw 😂). Novelty works with children and adolescents! If you are having trouble bringing a child “to the table” or with a child handing over their IPad, trying upping your energy output. Be the fun! #abaallday #iloveaba

Welcome to ABC! Where we hope to help teens and young adults learn social skills so they can comfortably navigate school and work, AND make friendships, too. We are Lauren, a BCBA & CCSD high school teacher, and Natalia, an autism mom who also works in the ABA field. We saw a need for these services, so we decided to fill the gap by starting these teen groups.
We both love ABA, and the social skills groups we offer are using evidence-based ABA models.
We ALSO both love fun tips to keep teens interested and healthily occupied (between the two of us, we have two teens and two tweens). So we will post as many fun tips as we can find. :)
