Every October, we dress up as witches. 🧙🏾♀️
Pointed hats. Broomsticks. A cackle for the camera.
But real women wore that label, and it cost them everything. They were jailed, searched, banished, and hanged. Most of them never cast a spell in their lives. They were midwives. Healers. Widows. Women who owned land, asked questions, or refused to shrink.
Starting tomorrow, I'm telling their stories.
✨ They Called Her Witch: 31 Nights of Massachusetts Women History Tried to Silence ✨
One true story every night from October 1 to Halloween. Thirty-one women, from 1638 to 2022. Some names you'll know, like Rebecca Nurse, Tituba, and Lizzie Borden. Most you've never heard, and that's exactly why they need telling.
Here's what I found while writing them: these women were almost never accused because of magic. They were accused because they held knowledge men couldn't control. Because someone wanted their land. Because they spoke up, grieved out loud, or simply didn't fit.
"Witch" was what they called a woman who stepped where women weren't allowed yet.
Sound familiar? 🔥
So I'll ask you what I'll be asking all month: Where in your life have you been called "too much" for simply being powerful?
Tell me in the comments. Then follow along every night on The Spiritual Speakeasy. 👇
