Here's a little meal prep hack that I always try to do.

I personally try to eat more nutritious foods which usually involves some kind of preparation (opposed to just a boxed meal or something).

And what does that cost me?

My time.

And if your day is anything like mine, time is about the most valuable thing you have and comes in short supply.

So I need things to be as easy as possible when it comes to my meals.

What I do is try to make a little extra of different things when I make dinner.

🍗 Chicken
🥒 Veggies
🌿 Herbs
🧀 Shredded cheese..etc.

My challenge for you is to look at what it is you are currently doing, and what are ways that you can make things easier on yourself?

Because when it's easier we are more likely to stick with it.

If it's complex and time-consuming, a lot of times we will just say maybe one day.

🚨 The actual things that cause you to lose weight aren't the same things that allow you to keep the weight off. 🚨

This was the general idea I talked about in Episode 19 of The Focused Fork Podcast where I discussed the #1 mistake I see people make when trying to lose weight in a sustainable way.

You see, the world is full of quick-fix weight loss plans that focus on cutting calories, carbs, or restricting your diet in extreme ways. And while these methods might work in the short term... they’re not the key to long-term success.

I get it. It's much easier (at first) to just focus on tangible things to do in order to lose weight. "Just tell me what to eat, John" or "How many carbs can I have in a day?"

But what happens when the initial motivation fades? What happens when life gets stressful or you just can’t keep up with the routine anymore--cuz it's gonna happen!!!

Keeping the weight off requires something deeper—a shift in habits, mindset, and how you respond to food and stress. It’s not about finding the “perfect” diet, it’s about creating a lifestyle that supports your goals without feeling like you’re constantly on a diet.

👉 Do you have a growth mindset or strict one?
👉 Do you a mindset of abundance or scarcity when it comes to food?
👉 Do you overeat when you're stressed?
👉 Do you eat out of habit?

These things matter--and that matter BIG TIME.

And if you're not looking inward at what's causing you to overeat, then just changing the food or counting calories will only work for so long.

💥 Feeling tired after eating? Here's why it could be happening...💥

Listen, most my days are pretty busy. Between getting the kids to school in the morning, helping out in a family business, running my own coaching business, and finding time for exercise, Zoom calls, and spending time with the family...

I'm freaking busy!

And you know what that means?

It means I need to keep my energy level up during the day and do my best to avoid brain fog.

That, in fact, is the original focus I had which ultimately let me to losing weight and keeping it off forever (see Episode 1 of the Focused Fork Podcast).

So on that note, have you ever found yourself needing a nap after a meal? 🤔

Yep, you’re not alone.

If your energy crashes right after you eat, or if you feel like you just can’t focus or get moving afterward, there could be a few reasons behind it.

I recorded a 9 minute or so video laying out a number of reasons why this may be. Remember, everyone is different so it's best to always test things out and see how you feel.

If you're doing formal exercise as a means for weight loss, WATCH THIS VIDEO and watch out for if you're doing these things.

Sometimes you might hit the gym hard and then find yourself too wiped out to do anything else the rest of the day. 😴

Here’s something to think about: if your workout leaves you so drained that you end up lounging on the couch or ordering takeout, you might be working against your weight loss goals.

It’s not just about the calories you burn during exercise—it's about how much you move the rest of the day and how your body reacts.

Hungry after a workout?

That may be your body looking to replace those calories, which can lead to eating more than you planned.

Exercise is awesome for so many reasons, but when it comes to weight loss, it's the little things (movements you do during the day) that add up.

Pay attention to how your workout impacts the rest of your day.

💪 What's the hardest part of losing weight? Getting out of your own way. 🚀

It’s not just about what we eat or how much we exercise—it’s about overcoming those mental barriers that keep us stuck.

We all have that inner voice saying, "I can’t do this," or "It’s too hard."

The real game is developing the skill to ignore those negative thoughts and focus on positive action.

In my experience, short-term weight loss is often about what you eat, but long-term success is all about WHO YOU BECOME.

Questions to think about...

❓ What do you do when you’re not motivated to eat healthy?

❓ How do you handle a tough day at work without turning to comfort food?

❓ What strategies do you use when you’re feeling overwhelmed or emotional?

These are the true obstacles, and overcoming them is key to lasting weight loss success.

Here’s a quick story: When I was young, I faced a towering sand dune on my dirt bike. My dad could conquer it in one go, but in the beginning I had to take the beginner path.

Over time I worked at climbing that hill by taking it slowly, step by step, each time improving and pushing a little further.

This principle of gradual progress applies to many areas of life, including achieving your goals. 🌟

By focusing on one manageable change at a time, you build a solid foundation for long-term success.

Here’s how to get started:

✅ Uncover Your WHY: This is the first step--always.
✅ Expectations: Set realistic expectations so you know what to aim for.
✅ Make Gradual Adjustments: Begin with small, manageable changes.
✅ Stay Consistent: Small, steady efforts create lasting impact.

"I'll get to it when I have more time." Sound familiar?

Let’s face it—life is busy.

Between work, family, and endless to-do lists, finding time for health often seems impossible.

👉 But here’s the cold hard truth: there’s never a “perfect” time to start, is there?

Think about this...

If you keep waiting for the “right” moment, you’re putting your well-being on hold indefinitely.

Just like waiting for a “perfect” time to save money or start a new project, waiting to prioritize your health can lead to missed opportunities and continued stress.

Imagine if the plumbing in your house sprung a leak in the wall and the only way to stop it was to spend about 30 minutes of your time getting it to stop. You could probably find the time--because if you didn't the outcome just gets worse.

The issue was moved up to the top of the list, right? It became *urgent.*

Although you're busy, if something is important enough to you... YOU MAKE TIME.

The problem is we humans always want to wait until everything else is perfect. But you and I both know that time never comes, does it?

Instead of waiting for the perfect time, start with small, manageable steps.

You don’t need hours to make progress. Just like handling a small drip in the faucet before it becomes a flood, taking small actions today will prevent bigger issues tomorrow.

Here are a few quick steps you can take:

👉 Start with a short daily walk—even 10 minutes can make a difference.
👉 Take the food you're eating now and ask yourself, "how can I improve this?"
👉 Incorporate brief, mindful breaks throughout your day to reduce stress.

Remember, progress is built on consistency, not perfection.

Don’t wait for the “ideal” moment—start where you are, with what you have.

Ever feel like you’ll never be able to stick with it? 😩

I hear you, and let me tell you—it's not your fault. It's the whole diet industry that’s got it backwards.

They focus so much on the "what"—what you eat or don’t eat, how many calories, carbs, or proteins you should consume.

But they completely overlook the most crucial element: WHO YOU ARE.

Here’s an analogy for you:

Think about lottery winners.

Many of them blow through their millions in just a few years.

Why?

Because they never developed the mindset or habits to handle that wealth. They got a huge sum of money but didn’t change their financial habits or beliefs.

The same goes for diets. You can't just drop a cookie-cutter plan from a fitness guru into your life and expect it to work.

Real, lasting change starts with you—your habits, your self-talk, your mindset.

If you keep repeating thoughts like “I’ll never be able to stick with it” or “It’s too hard,” what do you think will happen?

You’re setting yourself up for failure before you even begin.

Instead, let’s shift the narrative. Start telling yourself:

👉 “I’m making progress, and that’s what counts.”
👉 “Every small step is a victory.”
👉 “I’m learning and growing through this journey.”

Change is a process, and it begins with who you are being—not just what you’re eating.

So let’s drop the quick-fix mentality and start focusing on becoming the person who can sustain these changes long term.

When it comes to preparing my meals, I like to keep things simple but effective. Today, I'm sharing the 3 things I always consider to make sure I'm fueling my body the right way:.
Protein Power 💪
First and foremost, I think about where my protein is coming from. Protein is essential for energy, muscle maintenance, and overall health. For today’s breakfast, I’m making an egg white omelet with turkey, Parmesan cheese, and some avocado on the side—adding up to around 30 grams of protein..
Nutrient Density 🥦
The next thing I focus on is the nutrient content of my meal. Foods that are nutrient-dense help me avoid deficiencies and keep my energy levels high. Avocados, fresh apricots, and homegrown serrano peppers make sure I’m getting a variety of vitamins and minerals..
How I Feel After Eating 🧠
Finally, I pay attention to how I feel after eating. Does this meal leave me feeling energized and focused, or sluggish and tired? For me, too many carbs can lead to brain fog, so I’m mindful of balancing my meals to keep me feeling great..

Feeling Frustrated with Your Weight Loss Journey? There’s Hope! 🌟

I’ve been there—feeling stuck, frustrated, and wondering if I’ll ever see the results I want.

Years ago, I was at a point where no matter what I tried, the scale wouldn’t budge. It felt like all the effort I was putting in wasn’t paying off. I remember thinking, “Is this really worth it? Can I actually do this?”

But here’s the thing—I realized that weight loss isn’t just about the physical effort. It’s a mental game too. I was so focused on the numbers that I forgot to celebrate the small wins, the non-scale victories, and the progress I was making in other areas of my life.

So I shifted my approach. I started paying attention to how I felt, not just what the scale said. I celebrated the energy I was gaining, the clothes that fit better, and the moments when I could say “no” to mindless eating.

Progress Isn’t Always Linear… 📉

When you're on a weight loss journey, it’s easy to get discouraged by daily fluctuations on the scale. But remember, the path to success is rarely a straight line.

⚖️ Why is that?

👉 Water Retention: Changes in your hydration levels can cause the scale to fluctuate.

👉 Muscle Gain: As you build muscle, you might see the scale go up, even though you're losing fat. People see this when their waist size shrinks but the scale goes up ( )

👉 Hormonal Changes: Hormones can cause temporary weight gain, especially for women during certain times of the month.

👉 Dietary Variations: A higher sodium intake can cause water retention, while carbs can cause short-term weight increases due to glycogen storage.

The key is to focus on your long-term trend and not get discouraged by short-term setbacks.

Consistency is what counts. 🌟

The only way you'll never get there is if you give up--and don't do that because everything is achievable.

When it comes to losing weight, we often focus on the physical steps—like changing our diet, getting more exercise, and sticking to a routine.

But there’s another crucial element that can make or break your success: self-love.

Think of your weight loss journey like a long hike.

Your goal is to reach the top of the mountain, where better health and confidence await.

But the hike can be tough.

If you’re weighed down by self-doubt, guilt, and negativity, every step feels like a struggle. It’s like carrying a heavy backpack filled with rocks—it makes the journey exhausting and it’s easy to feel like giving up.

But what if you could take those rocks out of your backpack?

When you fuel your journey with self-love, kindness, and a positive outlook, you lighten your load.

Suddenly, the hike becomes easier and the view along the way is more enjoyable.
