FOCUS UNLV is a post-secondary education program for young adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
F.O.C.U.S. (Forming Occupational and Community Understanding for Success) is a 2 to 4 year post-secondary education program for young adults with intellectual/developmental disability. uses the principles of the Universal Design for Learning and Person Centered planning to provide a 100% inclusive program to help college students achieve current and future academic, independent living, and employment goals.
Mission: The purpose of F.O.C.U.S. is to provide an inclusive, accessible, and productive career education program for college aged students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in the Las Vegas valley that promotes self-determination, community engagement and partnerships, job readiness and transitions to adulthood through person-centered planning, inclusive teaching, evidence-based research, and positive behavior supports.

We're absolutely STOKED to share that Ante For Autism was able to raise a whopping grand total of $142,531 for causes supporting autism awareness! Week 4 of Spring 2020 semester and Project FOCUS students are taking it in stride like champs! 😎 Come learn about our program and hang out with us by volunteering, we love being able to take big groups to the SU to just hang out! 😁 Check out the squad we collected from last Thursday's lunch hangout-- I think we're gonna need a bigger table! 😱
Part of our passion about our program is getting our students to where they want to be. One awesome example is the one and only Eric Clash. Eric is a massive roller coaster enthusiast and has been talking about his love of the amusement park world since he joined us fall of 2017. He's put in hard work with Project FOCUS to build his resume, work on job skills, and practice mock interviews until he mastered his craft. Before this semester started, Eric was able to attend the Students in Themed Entertainment conference at Ohio State with a FOCUS staff member, Carina. Over the course of the weekend, he networked with several theme parks and ultimately introduced himself a member of HR at Cedar Point. After wowing them with his enthusiasm and intense knowledge regarding the park, he was able to score a phone interview for the following week. After a little more practice honing his skills and building his confidence, all this work ended up paying off-- Eric is set to start his position as a sales associate at Cedar Point for summer 2020! We can't emphasize enough how proud we are of him and the hard work he's put in to making his dreams come true. Thanks for letting us be part of your journey Eric!

Holy moly, are we at the end of the semester already? Last week until Winter Break finally hits! From Homecoming court to dance practice with the Rebel Girls, COE presentations and Karaoke nights plus everything in between, it's been an awesome semester that we can't wait to wish good bye to!

Our experience at the State of the Art conference was absolutely incredible. 🤓 We were so grateful to be able to send our students and staff up to get to talk about the benefits of inclusive post-secondary education and meeting others with experiences like ours. Our director, Ryan Wennerlind, was able to present on major topics in post-secondary education and introduce a panel of parents that shared their perspectives on transition programs and their importance. While the focus tends to be on the clinical aspect of Post-Secondary Ed (which is crucial of course,) it's also important to bring the voices of these individuals to light. Practical application is just as critical to understand and bring attention to the many faces of students and who these conferences are truly benefiting. We're counting down the minutes until next year's conference! 😁
