The omohyoid muscle (green) is an often ignored structure because of its location and seeming lack of function. However, it can be a key player in neck and shoulder dysfunctions. It attaches to the superior border of the scapula and the hyoid bone. Its fascia is contiguous with the interscapular nerve, which affects the rhomboid and levator scapula. If someone comes to you with seemingly difficult to resolve neck, rhomboid, or levator scapula issues, this is the muscle to consider. In NKT we often find it paired with opposite omohyoid, or the suprahyoid muscles. Resolution of omohyoid dysfunction can have a marvelous effect on the neck and scapular regions.

Research shows massage is recommended to get at least one per month. If your budget isn't the issue, then every week is suggested to create wellness. You receive all the benefits and it allows each session to be more beneficial. Every other week would be the next best case.

Should I bathe before my massage?
Yes, showering relaxes the muscles and will allow me to get into those hard to get areas.
