A little NAVASSIST update.

Things are starting to move.

We’ve been meeting with healthcare professionals, building new referral relationships, speaking with community organizations, and continuing to educate people about the role healthcare navigation can play when a serious diagnosis becomes overwhelming.

We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but it feels good to see NAVASSIST gaining traction.

Very grateful for everyone who has encouraged us, made an introduction, shared a post, or simply asked, “How’s the business going?”

We’re getting there.

A little old-school marketing at NAVASSIST this week: letters, flyers, envelopes, stamps—and a dining room table that briefly became a mailroom. 📬

We’ve sent information about our free Medicare navigation talk to local communities, and these letters are headed to elder law firms to introduce our private navigation services.

There’s something satisfying about putting a thoughtful introduction in the mail. Now we’ll see what conversations it starts.

Today was a great day! I know tomorrow will be even better. We’re building NAVASSIST brick by brick, conversation by conversation, and relationship by relationship. And something keeps happening that energizes me: every time I explain what we’re building, people get it. They see the need. They encourage me. And they want to know more.

In just the past few weeks, we’ve welcomed our first private navigation clients, scheduled another community lecture, and met with attorneys to explore how NAVASSIST can support elder care practices when their clients’ healthcare needs become complex.

NAVASSIST started as an idea.

Now it’s taking shape. We’re helping real families, building real partnerships, and beginning to make our own little splash here in Ocean and Monmouth Counties.

There is so much more ahead.

Help us grow.
Watch us grow.
Be part of our growth.

This is just the beginning—and it's SO EXCITING!

Recently, a friend gifted Sean Covey’s (Steven’s son) wonderful children’s book, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, to my granddaughter. We spent Labor Day weekend reading the stories over and over to her. She couldn’t get enough of it!

The stories and illustrations are magical. And the language may be simpler, but the Covey wisdom is there; take responsibility, have a plan, work before you play, listen to others, work together, and take care of yourself.

Some books impact you permanently. Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has been one of those books for us. We love the Coveys—and whenever we need to “sharpen the saw,” we listen to The 7 Habits again. Its lessons never seem to lose their relevance.

Good habits are worth learning early! Thanks to the Coveys for keeping this family on track.

Public speaking is one of those things people either love… or would rather do almost anything to avoid.

In fact, surveys consistently show that public speaking ranks among people’s most common fears. I seem to have gotten the opposite gene.

I love it.

I love the energy in the room, the questions, the laughter, the moment when you can actually see something “click” for someone in the audience. I feel the adrenaline before I speak — but instead of wanting to run, I feed off it.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so excited about our fall lecture series, **The Best-Kept Secret in Medicare**. It’s an engaging, practical discussion about Medicare’s new navigation and support services — benefits that many patients and caregivers still don’t know exist.

If your community, organization, senior group, library, caregiver group, or professional network is looking for a speaker this fall, I would LOVE to come.

And I promise… I’m probably more excited about speaking to your group than you are about having me.

Imagine a world where every patient with a serious diagnosis was assigned a non-clinical navigator. Someone to call with questions and concerns. Someone to call THEM, to check-in and get ahead of potential setbacks in scheduling or record transmittal.

HHS examined the value of patient navigation in 2023 by conducting the RAND study. It studied the impact of non-clinical navigation, including its potential to improve patient experience, outcomes, and care coordination.

Then Medicare took an important next step.

By creating reimbursement for Principal Illness Navigation (PIN) and Community Health Integration (CHI), Medicare did more than introduce new billing codes. It validated something many patients and caregivers already know:

NAVIGATION MATTERS

It reaffirmed the value of having someone help patients understand, coordinate, and move through an increasingly complicated healthcare system — and recognized that this support can play a meaningful role in better care and better outcomes.

We are on a mission to educate the communities of Ocean and Monmouth Counties about Medicare’s newer support services, including Principal Illness Navigation (PIN) and Community Health Integration (CHI).

For eligible Medicare beneficiaries, these services may provide access to reimbursable support with many of the coordination challenges that come with serious or complex health conditions.

Could you or someone you love benefit from having a professional help navigate the phone calls, scheduling, questions, authorizations, and countless time-consuming coordination activities that come with a serious diagnosis?

**Ask your physician or specialist if patient navigation services may be available to you.**
