I'm a doctor and I'm telling you to wait on reta. Sounds backwards — watch why. The "not for human consumption" label on those gray-market vials isn't a technicality. It's the business model. 👇

Some of us love exercise; some of us hate it. No matter your past experience, the benefits cannot be ignored.

Your cardiorespiratory fitness cannot be ignored. It has such an important bearing on your overall functional status, quality of life, and lifespan. In other words, if you have a greater cardiorespiratory fitness, it will help you live longer and better.

The challenge is finding the movement pattern that is enjoyable, affordable, and accessible to you.

Diastolic heart failure has become like bread and butter to me. This is only one of many reasons I prefer cardio metabolic specialist over obesity medicine doctor.

A few things make a huge difference:
1️⃣ Sustained weight loss. Easier said than done. Come see me.
2️⃣ Monitor your sodium. Many patients who do this notice a difference quite rapidly.
3️⃣ Diuretics and other medications. These tend to be the third or fourth line choices of most prescribers. I reach for them early.

Nothing changes your content strategy like your CEO following you. Especially, when that is David Ray, Utah's top healthcare executive who is steering Tanner Clinic to greatness.

For anyone living with a chronic disease today: it's okay to grieve it.

Life is messy, difficult, and painful. Sometimes we just need someone to listen. I may not have all of the answers, but I can bring the Kleenex.

Uncomfortable skin sensations on GLP-1 are real and common. However, they weren't getting talked about in the doctor's offices and hospitals until recently. Unfortunately, that has caused some disconnects in care. That's why I wrote about it on Substack.

This is one of the most distressing symptoms for those on GLP-1 medications. It may feel like it is going to continue until all of your hair falls out, but it won't.

Hair-shedding with weight loss is most often telogen effluvium. It is your body deprioritizing the hair follicles, shifting them into hibernation, and shuffling scarce nutrients around within your body.

It is scary, but it is not dangerous or permanent.

Should you come see an obesity medicine doctor? Here's the quick decision tree 👇

1️⃣ Is your weight affecting your health, energy, or how you move through life?
➡️ No: keep doing what's working.
➡️ Yes: see step 2.

2️⃣ Have you tried the diets, the apps, the gym plans, and either not lost weight or regained it?
➡️ Yes. This is biology at work. Your metabolism isn't broken, it's brilliant. Your biology is pushing back, and that's what I treat.

3️⃣ Are you wondering whether GLP-1 medications, surgery, or a structured plan make sense for you?
➡️ That's exactly the conversation I want to have with you.

If you landed on "yes," come see me. I practice obesity medicine at Tanner Clinic in Bountiful and Layton, and there's no judgment here, just a plan built around you.

Whether you come and see me or not, make sure that you are following for evidence without shame.

If you've ever cried in a doctor's office about your weight, you're not alone.

Many of my first visits include tears. Not because I scold or shame — I don’t. I think that we believe asking for help means we've failed.

If you were struggling with asthma, we'd worry if you didn't get medical help.

Why is weight management any different?

It’s not. Asking for help isn't failure. It's treatment.
