When you are sleeping it is like plugging your phone into recharge.
If you don't you will have warning alarms to tell you to plug back in.
As you continue to ignore then apps and other applications within the phone start working slower or not at all.
Your signals are your alarms are you listening?

What is the “ideal” body fat percentage for an athlete?

The honest answer is that there is no single number that predicts performance.

Athletes within the same sport can thrive at very different body compositions.

When we turn group averages into individual goals, we risk overlooking the factors that matter more, including fueling, recovery, sleep, strength, health, and training quality.

In my latest blog, I’m breaking down why body fat percentage is only one small piece of the performance puzzle, and why chasing a lower number can sometimes move an athlete farther away from their goals.

Recently, my daughter had the opportunity to travel through Europe with her school.

As she shared photos of all the incredible foods that are staples in each country, it got me thinking...

Do other countries struggle with the same health conditions that seem so common in America?

💤 Sleep issues
🦋 Thyroid dysfunction
🛡️ Autoimmune conditions

Our culture often points the finger at food—especially carbohydrates—as the culprit.

Yet many of these countries regularly enjoy fresh bread, pasta, pastries, potatoes, and other carbohydrate-rich foods as part of their everyday meals. They don't seem to fear carbs the way we do.

So it makes me wonder...

Are carbohydrates really the problem?

Or are we overlooking the bigger picture—chronic stress, sleep, movement, ultra-processed foods, social connection, meal patterns, environmental factors, and the pace of our daily lives?

Maybe it's time we stop searching for a single food to blame and start asking better questions about health.

Lower body fat does not automatically mean better performance.

Yes, you read that right! 👆

An athlete may reach a lower number while losing strength, power, muscle mass, hormonal function, recovery capacity, and enjoyment of sport.

That is NOT performance progress if you ask me.

As providers, instead of asking, “How can this athlete lower their body fat percentage?” we need to ask, “What is actually limiting their health, recovery, and performance right now?”

My newest blog explores the risks of chasing an “ideal” body composition and how providers can shift the focus back to the whole athlete.

Lets start a movement.. caught fed-handed ( get it instead of RED)
While the intent behind this picture ws not that she was eating during a timeout I am making it my intention.
The best of the best want to "add" in every tool to help them excel. It amazes me how often we our athletes think they are the unicorn that doesn't.
If Aja Wilson can slurp down a GoGo Squeeze to help her finish strong with almost a triple double then what is your excuse?
** Good thing Maddie always has a stash of these in her basketball bag. "**

Burn 🔥 out is your brain’s way of saying too much data to compute. Please allow time for processing.
Once that data can be computed, this is the moment of brilliance.
Some of my best thoughts have come during vacations because I gave myself time to not have to think 🤔; it just came naturally.
Some of my best training has come when taking a break.
Are you ready for your breakthrough or are you going to continue to smolder during your burn 🔥 out?

If eating something for joy or connection makes you feel better why is that a bad thing?
Now of course we don't want that to be all you have to manage your mood but occassionally using this is absolutely OK!
