🍂 Autumn Equinox — Returning to Balance

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM), the Autumn Equinox represents a moment of balance between Yin and Yang—day and night are nearly equal before Yin gradually begins to increase.

Autumn is associated with the Metal element, the Lung and Large Intestine systems, and the qualities of clarity, refinement, release, and letting go.

As nature begins to turn inward, we are invited to do the same.

This is a season to ask:

What am I ready to release?
What deserves to be preserved?
What needs to be gathered within?

The Lung is traditionally associated with Qi and respiration, receiving the clear Qi of Heaven. The Large Intestine supports the process of elimination—making Autumn an especially meaningful time to consider both what we take in and what we let go of.

From a CCM perspective, seasonal living is not simply about treating symptoms. It is about cultivating harmony with the changing rhythms of nature.

Autumn Practices

Breathe deeply.
Slow the breath and allow the exhalation to become a conscious practice of release.

Gather your Qi.
Begin shifting from outward activity toward more restorative, inward practices such as gentle Qigong, meditation, and mindful movement.

Protect the Lung Qi.
As temperatures become cooler and drier, support warmth, hydration, and comfortable breathing.

Let go.
Release physical clutter, emotional burdens, outdated habits, and commitments that no longer serve your current season.

Nourish rather than deplete.
Autumn invites us to conserve our resources and prepare for the deeper Yin of Winter.

Equinox Qigong Intention

Inhale: I receive.
Exhale: I release.
Inhale: I gather my Qi.
Exhale: I let go of what is no longer needed.

The Equinox reminds us that balance is not a permanent state—it is a rhythm.

Just as nature transitions from expansion toward contraction, we too can honor the wisdom of slowing down, gathering inward, and preparing for what comes next.

This Autumn, may we release with grace, breathe with awareness, and return to our center.

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Classical Chinese Medicine concepts are presented for educational and wellness purposes and are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure disease.

🌿 A New Chapter in Preventative Wellness

Coming this October!

I’m honored to introduce a new service offering rooted in my journey as a Doctor of Medical Qigong.

After three years of intensive training in Classical Chinese Medicine and Medical Qigong, I’m excited to bring Medical Qigong Treatments into my practice with a focus on preventative medicine and whole-person wellness.

🌿 What is Medical Qigong?
Medical Qigong combines gentle movement, breathwork, mindfulness, and traditional principles to support the connection between body, mind, and spirit.

Sessions may focus on:
✨ Supporting overall health and vitality
✨ Stress and emotional balance
✨ Breath and movement practices
✨ Lifestyle and wellness awareness
✨ Energy and constitutional balance
✨ Personalized preventative practices

My philosophy is simple: your health is an ongoing practice—not something we should only think about when we become sick.

This is about learning to listen to your body, creating balance, and taking an active role in your own wellness journey.

Prevent today. Thrive tomorrow. 🌿

Emotions are not only experiences of the mind, they live within the body as well.

When feelings are held inside for too long, the body begins to carry their weight. They do not disappear when ignored. They settle quietly and create imbalance long before any outer sign appears.

Health is not only about what we eat or how we move, but also about what we continue to hold inside. Inner harmony allows energy to flow with ease, while unresolved emotions create tension where there should be openness.

Listening to your emotional state and allowing yourself to acknowledge and release is not weakness. It is a deep act of care and prevention. When emotions are seen and softened, the body is given space to restore itself.

True wellness begins within. Heal the emotional roots before they grow further.

Three years. Thousands of miles. Countless hours of study, practice, growth, and transformation.

Today, I am honored to announce the completion of my Doctor of Medical Qigong program.

For the past three years, I traveled quarterly from Lincoln, Nebraska, to Leechburg, Pennsylvania, committing myself to an intensive journey of learning, healing, and personal growth. More than 2,000 hours later, the day has finally arrived.

This achievement is more than earning a doctorate—it represents perseverance, sacrifice, and a deep commitment to serving others through the wisdom of Classical Chinese Medicine and Medical Qigong.

As Director of Essential Elements Institute, I believe education is a lifelong journey. Every mile traveled, every late night studying, and every challenge overcome has prepared me to better serve my patients, students, and community.

To my instructors, classmates, family, friends, and everyone who supported me along the way—thank you. Your encouragement made this journey possible.

This is not the finish line; it’s the beginning of a new chapter. I look forward to continuing to bridge ancient wisdom with modern science and helping others discover the incredible healing potential of Medical Qigong.

Here’s to the next chapter of healing, teaching, and making a difference.

With gratitude,
Dr. Phanomvan Pongdara, DMQ

We didn’t expect our students to give such amazing speeches. 😭

✨ Congratulations to Our Graduating Class of 2026 ✨

What began as a journey of learning has transformed into confidence, growth, and purpose. Watching our students step into their power and trust in the skills they’ve developed has been one of the greatest rewards.

At Essential Elements Institute of Massage Therapy, we believe healing is an art — not a routine. Our program is designed differently, blending massage therapy with a more Eastern approach to healing through mindfulness, energy awareness, breath, balance, and intention.

We are not here to create cookie-cutter therapists. We are here to help students discover their own strengths, intuition, and unique healing presence — and it truly shows in the confidence our graduates now carry.

Tonight, our students gave some of the most heartfelt and inspiring speeches, and honestly, we did not expect them to speak with such confidence, wisdom, and authenticity. It truly showed that they learned so much more than just massage during their time here.

To our Class of 2026: we are beyond proud of your dedication, growth, and heart. This is only the beginning of your journey as massage therapists. 🎓✨

As our current class has ended… our next class is so eager to start. If you know of anyone interested in massage therapy we currently have open enrollment for our August class. Message us or visit our website at www.essentialelementsinstitute.com
