NSLHA endorses Cindy Johnson for Legislature

Cindy has been a member of the Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Association since 1991, having served as President of the association in 2011.

Notably, Cindy has been involved with the Legislative committee, working with Senators on a variety of issues - she worked with Sen. Blood in 2019 to pass a requirement for insurance coverage of hearing aids for children and she worked with members of the Legislature on LB 950 - the Infant Hearing Act. She was a member of the advisory committee for the Nebraska Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program for many years. Cindy will stand up for our physicians, patients, and families as a member of the Nebraska Legislature.

Cindy started and operated her own practice before moving to Omaha to work at Children’s Hospital. Cindy’s work, advocacy, and dedication turned around and built up a multiple-member audiology department. Her retirement following her time at Children’s was short-lived, and she continues to work part-time at a local, woman/veteran-owned audiology practice.

Cindy has a professional campaign team managing her race and ensuring her success. She’s already out knocking doors and listening to voters. Her race will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and while she’s had a great start, she needs all the support she can get. District 10 is one of the most competitive races in the state this year, and Cindy’s the only candidate in the race who will fight for NSLHA.

What if the next generation of leaders could learn directly from today’s leaders?

The Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Association is proud to offer a unique leadership development opportunity that pairs a board member or regional liaison with the students who serve as liaisons to our statewide student organizations (KSSLHA, UNL NSSLHA, UNL SAA, UNO NSSLHA/Collegiate Sertoma).

Through this mentoring experience, students build professional relationships and learn firsthand about leadership, decision-making, and service.

(L-R Sonny Sobczyk, NSLHA Liaison to University of Nebraska at Omaha National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA)/Collegiate Sertoma chapter and Stacie Delezene, 2027 NSLHA President)

The NSLHA Convention Student Share Fair provided students with a valuable opportunity to connect with professionals in the field and learn from their knowledge, experiences, and areas of expertise.

These conversations allowed students to gain insights into professional practice, explore diverse career paths, and strengthen their understanding of the speech-language pathology profession.

We are grateful for the generosity and commitment to supporting the next generation of speech-language pathologists and audiologists!
