Pelvic floor dysfunction can involve much more than bladder control. Persistent pelvic pain, postpartum scar restrictions, abdominal dysfunction, and hip or back pain often overlap.

Dr. Allison Feldt, PT, DPT, is exploring how Shockwave Therapy (EPAT®/ESWT) and EMTT® can complement manual therapy, movement, and patient education to address tissue restrictions and support functional recovery.

Discover her clinical approach, patient cases, and insights into multimodal pelvic floor rehabilitation.

A broken foot can sideline an athlete. Could Focused Shockwave help shorten the road back?

A new 2026 study suggests it may have a role.

Researchers examined 34 high-level athletes who underwent surgery for Jones fractures, injuries involving the fifth metatarsal bone on the outside of the foot. These fractures can be notoriously difficult to heal, particularly in athletes whose sports involve running, cutting and pivoting.

Here's what researchers found:

✅ Athletes receiving surgery plus Focused Shockwave achieved bone union in a median of 8 weeks, compared with 10 weeks for surgery alone.
✅ Return to sport occurred at a median of 9 weeks with Shockwave versus 12 weeks without it.
✅ Every athlete in both groups ultimately achieved bone union and returned to their original sport.

The researchers used the STORZ Medical DUOLITH® SD1 T-TOP Ultra to deliver Focused Shockwave Therapy following surgery.

These preliminary findings suggest Focused Shockwave may offer an additional tool for postoperative fracture management, although larger controlled studies are needed.

The goal isn't simply getting athletes back faster. It's supporting healing so they can return when they're ready.

Multimodal care requires clinical judgment about how treatments fit together.

For medical professionals incorporating Shockwave and EMTT, that includes selecting appropriate patients, understanding each technology’s applications, and coordinating treatment with rehabilitation and other interventions.

Hands-on training and ongoing education help providers refine those decisions as their experience grows. Access to clinical support gives the team somewhere to turn when a patient’s needs call for a more tailored approach.

Explore what it takes to integrate Shockwave and EMTT into your continuum of care.

Hard-to-heal lower-extremity wounds remain a significant clinical challenge, and emerging research is examining whether Shockwave Therapy + EMTT® could play a complementary role alongside standard care.

On October 30, hear directly from Dr. Eric Lullove about his newly published study involving 15 patients with hard-to-heal post-Mohs lower-extremity wounds.

He'll take us beyond the abstract and into the clinical details: why he combined ESWT + EMTT, the protocol he used, the wound healing and pain outcomes he observed, and what he believes needs to be studied next.

If wound care is part of your practice, or you're interested in emerging applications for Shockwave and EMTT, don't miss this discussion.

A calcium deposit. Severe hip pain. Five weeks of Focused Shockwave.

A newly published 2026 case report in BMJ Case Reports takes a closer look at the use of Focused Shockwave for an uncommon presentation of calcific tendinopathy of the hip.

The patient, a man in his 40s, presented with sudden, severe gluteal/posterior thigh pain. MRI identified a 2.6 × 1 × 1.8 cm calcium hydroxyapatite deposit at the gluteus maximus insertion, along with severe adjacent edema.

The treatment approach:
🔹 Focused Shockwave once weekly for 5 weeks
🔹 3,000 shocks per treatment
🔹 0.30–0.35 mJ/mm²
🔹 Physical therapy initiated within 2 weeks of beginning Shockwave

The outcome is what makes this case especially interesting.

Pain decreased from 10/10 to 3/10 during treatment. By the fifth session, the patient reported no pain transitioning from sitting to standing or lying on the affected side and had resumed walking and cycling.

And one month after completing Shockwave, follow-up X-ray showed complete resolution of the previously noted calcification, with ultrasound also showing no remaining calcium deposits.

While this is a single case, and the authors emphasize that evidence for calcific tendinopathy of the hip remains limited, it adds to the growing clinical conversation around Focused Shockwave beyond more commonly treated areas such as the shoulder.

Worth a read for clinicians interested in the expanding applications of Shockwave in musculoskeletal medicine.

Achilles tendinopathy can be one of the more persistent tendon conditions clinicians manage.

Progressive loading remains central to care, but researchers continue to explore how adjunctive therapies may influence the healing process.

In a recent randomized clinical study, patients with chronic midportion Achilles tendinopathy completed progressive resistance training, with one group also receiving Focused Shockwave.

Both groups improved in pain and function.

But the group receiving Focused Shockwave showed a more pronounced and temporally distinct pattern of intratendinous remodeling.

That distinction matters: the study suggests Shockwave may be acting as a physiological catalyst for tendon remodeling rather than simply a symptom-focused adjunct.
