One of the most common things I see in new clients is that the have been chest breathing their entire lives — and they have no idea.

And it’s keeping their nervous system locked in a low-grade stress response. All day. Every day.

Chest breathing tells your brain danger is present. Belly breathing tells your brain you’re safe.

Same lungs. Completely different signal.

Watch this reel. Then put one hand on your belly and try one breath. Notice where you feel it.

That noticing is the beginning of everything.

Your breath is the fastest way to tell your nervous system it’s safe. Box breathing is a simple technique with four equal parts:

Inhale for 4.
Hold for 4.
Exhale for 4.
Hold for 4.

That’s one round. Do it for 1 to 2 minutes.
Slow, even breathing with a pause built in gives your body a cue to shift out of fight-or-flight and toward rest. Many people use it to feel calmer, steadier, and more focused when stress or anxiety spikes.

I walk you through it in this video, so take a breath and try it with me. 🤍

Save this for the next time your chest feels tight, and send it to someone who needs a reset today.

Anxiety isn’t just in your head. It shows up in your body, your relationships, your finances, and your faith.

This October, AOS Healing Center and Gwinnett International Church are coming together for Taking Back Your Peace: Overcoming Anxiety & Reclaiming Your Spiritual Reset.
It’s a practical, uplifting conversation on the 5 dimensions of human need: spiritual, emotional, relational, physical, and practical. You’ll learn how to recognize what you actually need and how God meets you in each area.

You probably don’t think about your breathing until you notice it getting faster.

But your breath can tell you a lot about how you’re feeling. Stress, sleep, digestion, focus—sometimes your body asks you to slow down before you’ve even found the words for what’s going on.

Swipe through and see which one feels familiar. No need to change everything today. Just take a moment to notice.

Save this for the next time you need a moment to check in with yourself.

This past weekend, I had the chance to facilitate a breakout session with a group of phenomenal women at the SistersRSisters Conference which focused on “Taking it all back.” My break out focused on Taking back your peace, How to not allow my circumstances to govern my inner life. This topic made me jump for joy because I knew immediately what I could share with the participants.

Being able to take back my peace, it is essential to start with having a better understanding of one’s identity, “who am I really,” then have a complete understanding of how one’s system works when processing information and how to regain sovereignty of what may seem to be such an automatic experience by using the breathe. Our breathe provides us with so much power, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually because of what it truly is…. The best part was being able to speak from a both a practical and spiritual standpoint.. something I don’t always get the chance to do in my office space… I am so grateful to God for this opportunity to bring practical skills into a space where people are trying so hard to live a life according to their religious path but still have human experiences and this contributes to a frustration, back sliding and so many other things… as a very spiritual person myself and being connected to so many people … I found that missing pieces are practical skills and knowledge about the physical self…. Before we can spiritualize we must first normalize so we can fully experience abiding peace.

So if you are finding that you are having these type of experiences and desire to develop some practical skills that can help you to overcome rather than manage diagnoses such as depression and anxiety and you are open to incorporating spiritual wisdom into the process let’s connect.

Sometimes, grounding starts with simply coming back to your body.

In this trauma-informed yoga practice, we’re using a simple grounding pose to create a sense of safety, connection, and presence—without forcing the body to do anything it isn’t ready for.

Take a breath. Notice your feet. Feel the support beneath you. Give yourself permission to slow down.

Healing doesn’t always have to look like doing more. Sometimes, it looks like pausing long enough to feel where you are. 🤍

Save this for a moment when you need to reconnect with yourself.

I used to say yes to everyone.
Full caseload, always available, answering messages at 9pm because I felt guilty if I didn’t.

I also used to treat the mind on its own. Someone comes in anxious, we work on the anxiety. But I stopped ignoring the fact that their body has been holding onto something this whole time too. You can’t separate the two. I don’t know why I ever tried to.

This is basically why I embraced the Brainbow Blueprint. Not because “whole person care” sounded good on a website, but because it’s the only way any of this actually works.

Not everyone who needs healing feels safe in a traditional yoga class.

For someone carrying trauma in their body — being touched without warning, being told to relax, being pushed into a posture that feels vulnerable — can activate the very response we’re trying to calm.

Trauma-informed yoga was designed with that in mind.

Every movement is an invitation. Every boundary is honored. Every body is met exactly where it is.

This is Part 1 of a conversation I’ve been wanting to have for a long time. Filmed in my garden — because healing doesn’t only happen indoors. 🌿

Part 2 drops soon. Follow so you don’t miss it.

What does whole-person care actually mean?

I get asked this all the time — and I love the question, because most people have never been offered it.

Whole-person care means we don’t separate your mind from your body. We don’t treat your anxiety like it exists in a vacuum, disconnected from what you’re eating, how you’re sleeping, whether you’re moving, or what gives your life meaning.

Because the research is clear: all of those things affect your mental health. Not as side notes. As central variables.

At AOS Healing Center, we use the BrainBow Blueprint — a lifestyle medicine framework that addresses seven dimensions of your health: nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, relationships, spirituality, and environment.

Part 2 is coming next — and it’s less about the philosophy and more about the actual clinical process. 🌿

Save this series if you’ve ever felt like your care was missing something.

I used to wonder why some of my clients would do everything right — show up every week, do the work, make real progress — and still struggle.

Then I started learning about lifestyle medicine. and everything changed.

Talk therapy is powerful. I believe in it deeply, and the mind cannot fully heal in isolation from the body.

What you eat affects your mood. how you sleep affects your emotional regulation. Whether you move affects your nervous system. Whether you feel connected affects your resilience.

Talk therapy was never meant to carry all of that alone.

Whole-person healing is what we practice at AOS Healing Center. because you were never just a mind. 🌿
